Expensive Indoor Ranges

Postby Imsohungry on Tue Aug 12, 2014 1:18 pm

I know I'm not the only one, but has anybody else noticed how expensive indoor ranges are around the twin cities?

Most of the ranges in this area charge $20+ per visit and that's not even for unlimited time for some places.

My location is in Carver/Hennepin county and the options are limited around here. Gun clubs require invites and annual fees. State forests are not worth it because of gas used to drive there.

What do you urbanites do when you want to shoot?

Head downtown???
Nothing is free.
I belong to a couple of ranges. One is close, the other almost perfect.

Ya gotta pay to play, that is just the way it is. At some of the indoor ranges you can reduce cost significantly by buying tokens in bulk.

If you're around Carver Cty head out to Hutchinson to Gopher Campfire.
Google it so you know how to get your card.

Oakdale Gun Club charges $20 for a WHOLE DAY, and the only additional fees are if you're shooting trap. That includes a 100 yard, 200 yard, 50 yard, and 25 yard ranges.

How far is the rifle range at Gopher Campfire? Any covered/heated winter options there?

An indoor range costs millions to build and maintain, thats why they cost so much. If you shoot regularly most have a discount program... I prefer Bunrsville for the winter.

I believe 50 and 100yds. Don't recall any winter shooting shelters there. Pistol and 50 yard range have cover

Burnsville pistol is the cheapest indoor range around. $140 gets you a card with 10 punches, each is good for a lane in their pistol or rifle range. In addition to being a buck/visit cheaper than regular price the shot card lets you bring 2 buddies and a second firearm for no extra charge.

Watch for a Black Friday special at gander lakeville. Last year got a 5 punch card for $75 and had a $10 coupon from a friend so it totaled $65. They give you targets so that helps to make up for the short range.

BESA is open to the public on Saturdays April through October, and it's $10 for 1 gun, $15 for as many guns as you can carry in, no time limit. The rifle and pistol ranges are a little more basic than OGC. There's a 100, 50, and 25 yard range with movable target stands that can come as close as 7 yards (Oakdale has a 200 yard range if you need longer distance, and a 7/10 yard short range as well). The trap & skeet ranges are arguably nicer (IIRC Oakdale only has trap; BESA has trap, skeet, and 5-stand).

The 50 yard range at the Baxter Fleet Farm isn't bad. No holster work allowed, but it's modern and comfortable with good RSOs. Friendly and helpful people. Prices aren't bad...

$12.50 per half hour session
10 sessions for $100
20 sessions for $150

Not to mention no per firearm fees.

This is my go-to range after having visited there for the first time on Saturday. It's very nice.

Be advised that the Oakdale short/ pistol range is not open to the public.
