Give or Get a Gun (or related item) for Christmas?

Postby onebohemian on Wed Dec 24, 2008 5:25 pm

I'll start the thread (before DeanC does) even though we haven't opened our family gifts yet.

I redid an old Ithica .22 lever action my dad bought used back when I was in high school. The rifle's iron sites were loose causing problems. I fixed the sites, disassembled and cleaned her, refinished the wood, reblued the barrel, and refinished the receiver. Added some decent burris rings and a solid 4.5 x 14 scope. Not a new gun, but I think dad's going to like it.

i kow, i have also promised to take pics of my reloading bench/area. i haven't. been a busier advent season than i expected.
also, i don't know anything about garands except they go bang bang bang bang bang bang bang ping. i need to download some info from the cmp site.

Bought myself an IZ109 Saiga 12 that arrived today :) . I bought it to avoid the ban but my wife says it should be my Christmas present. Now to order the parts for the conversion. Is the 18" length with a brake or flash hider or without? It starts as a 19" with no brake etc.

Bought my 11 year old grandson a H&R .20 gauge, his first gun. Not the most expensive gun out there, but he'll learn how to shoot straight with it.

Little %^*# scored an 18 this fall with my old .410. :D

Mine aren't much in the way of sentimental value. But, a soon to be brother in law enjoys shooting as much as I do, and he got a new .17 HMR rifle for Christmas, so I bought him a couple different types of ballistic tip ammunition to try out with it. That and a "buck roar" deer call that he was drooling about this season.

As for me, I tried to put some of the smaller reloading items on my wish list, so we'll see if I have any luck on that.

My dad was in the army during Vietnam, I'd love to come by an old GI .45 like he would have carried. An M1 or M14 would also be great, although he'd only shoot it when I asked him to target shoot, and that is unfortunately rare living in different states. Though the occasional rabbit he'd snipe would be a blast, literally.

Good luck giving and receiving everyone, enjoy it.

Was the drum in that box or another one? Very nice looking gun. I'd love to have picked one up before they're banned but too many guns and too little time / money.

One of these followed me home early for Christmas. :D Just in time for Don L's carry class on 12/13. Scored 95/100 during range qualification. Guess that leaves room for improvement.

Filed my permit application 12/15 so if all goes well I should have my Permit to Carry a Handgun before the coronation. Not that I'm concerned about change.

ETA: Also have a Hensley and Gibbs .38 bullet mold (with handles) under the tree. And a holster from Srigs on the way. :)

Santa brought a CT Laser for my P3AT and a X2 light for my M&P. On the reloading side: Picked up a Lee Powder Measure and set of 40S&W dyes. Not too bad of a start for me.

The wife got a Sig P6 and four extra mags. What a great gun.

I bought my oldest son an M4 airsoft rifle and 5000 pellets for Christmas.
My other son got a couple of Nerf guns.

I also got my oldest son a shotgun for his 11th birthday last month, a 20ga Mossberg.

My gun related present to myself was 10 weeks of training for my lab. We drop him off in a week and a half for 8 weeks of force fetching, collar conditioning, obedience training, and a few other goals, then he goes back in June for 2 weeks of water work. In fact, I told my wife this could be my Christmas present for the next 5 years.

I helped my sister -in-law give her hubby a Colt single action clone (Uberti), we are giving the other sister-in-law's boyfriend (not a shooter) the Red Ryder BB-gun and I got a Wheeler Engineering 89-piece gunsmithing screwdriver set. Sweet! And thanks John, for telling my wife I needed that set. :D

I fell into the whole new regime trap, and bought another AR.

Give or Get a Gun (or related item) for Christmas?

Postby KA0OLD on Thu Dec 25, 2008 12:21 pm

The wife applied for her permit December 1st. Her "Stocking Stuffer" was a Walther PPK/S. She already bought a S&W 642 "Airweight".
