I truthfully don't feel any need to carry. I'm at pretty much no risk at home, or at work, or anywhere else I usually go. If there were some place I was considering going where I wouldn't feel safe unless I was carrying, I'd seriously consider going someplace else.
That said, while I judge my risk to be very low, at present, I understand that can change very quickly. I came home from work, one day, and find my house mate had invited a friend to sleep on my couch. Her abusive ex has just walked away from a medium security treatment facility, and she was afraid to go home. She stayed with us for some weeks, until she'd finished the term.
During that time my risk of being the victim of a home invasion increased dramatically, and you can be sure I carried, and made sure my house mate knew where all the guns were. (The friend, I judged, was in no emotional state to be carrying, at the time.)
In any case, while I judge my risk to be low, so I may not always carry, if it's inconvenient, I make sure that I'm always ready to begin carrying on short notice, should my risk change. This means always having a carry pistol loaded and ready, along with holster, belt, spare mags, etc., nearby. It's one of the reasons that I always mount a gun safe in my car.
