Mobile shooting gallery

Postby justinvan on Sat Nov 12, 2016 2:31 pm

This is going to sound crazy, but I would like to build a trailer mounted mobile shooting gallery. It would be used for Rimfire calibers only and more than likely powered buy a deep cycle marine battery or two. I'm pretty good with electronics and electrical so would like to make it some form of variable speed moving targets using DC motors and possibly remote control. Has anybody ever seen anything remotely close to this? I have 5 by 6 utility trailer that I would like to use as the base. It would more than likely get brought to my farm and parked there only to be moved around by the four wheeler from time to time or in and out of storage so it does not need to be necessarily designed to go down the highway. Any thoughts or ideas( including the ones that are telling me I'm crazy) are appreciated. I've got a few ideas in my head and just starting to put them to paper.

They have a shooting gallery at the scheels in Rochester (lights not rimfire) if you need ideas. Seems complex and time consuming but I say go for it.

I've always wanted to build one of those, but I never thought about making one mobile...? I'd love to see what you come up with. This is as close as I've gotten to one on mine:

Sorry to derail thread. I did take the 'S' out. I edited my post above with two versions of the youtube link, any other ideas?

Thanks! I had just pasted the link where the cursor ended up after hitting the youtube button. Either that changed, or my memory is going. Most likely my memory is going.

Before my time there were travelling carnival type shooting galleries that would go from place to place. Some of the Cowboy Action guys are getting some of the old ones running again.

Here's a link that may be what you are looking for: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/outdoor-sports-recreation/905751-moving-targets-rimfire.html

Our club had one - long ago. We sold it to someone from the Rochester area who completely restored it and takes it to county fairs, with a full complete of arcade .22 cal. rifles.

Anyone remember the .22 shooting gallery they had at the State Fair many years ago? It used to be next to the giant slide (or close by) and they used Remington model 552 Speedmasters.

Caldwell makes a small one for about $300. They call it the "Rimfire Shootin Gallery". http://www.opticsplanet.com/caldwell-standard-rimfire-shooting-gallery-558978.html You could probably copy it or buy one and add on other shapes, etc.

Not to be a complete wet blanket, but what are the legal liabilities for

1. The shooting gallery itself?
2. Whatever guns you are providing?
3. Whatever ammo you are providing?
