How much dry fire practice is recommended?

Basically, how much is enough without going overboard? How many repetitions how often?

I find the first 10 repetitions to be the most beneficial. I do that 2-3 times per week.

When Todd Jarrett wanted to become a professional competitive shooter, he was doing 100 per night, every night.

How much is beneficial comes down to how long you can do it without losing interest, getting tired or otherwise experiencing diminished returns.

How much dry fire practice is recommended?

Depends on your goals. Just remember to be honest with yourself when dry firing and regularly test with live fire. I developed some really bad habits by not being fully honest with myself and little live fire. It was a rude awakening on match day.

what does your Dry Fire Routine consist of?

I find the lack of organized ranges that allow for holster work a big hurdle to getting the experience I'd like with those skills. I understand why its restricted, but it doesn't make me happy.

Mine consists of laying on the floor and pointing the rifle down the hallway at the SCATT target in my office. A couple of sighters, then 20 for record. I normally do it quite a bit (3-4 times/week) during the winter, but not at all from April - October.

Erud, have you had any experience with the people that shoot IBS? Since I am unable to shoot from a prone (or sitting on the ground) position, I'm looking into the IBS to get more long range (600 & 1000 yd) match/trigger time.

I know they have matches at GRRC and in WI (only 4 hrs from here) and wondered if you might have met some of their shooters? I plan to go to GRRC in April and watch their match, to get an idea of their setups and meet a few of the shooters.

Thanks,

Jim

Ok, I'll play it by ear for now. First goal is to keep my trigger technique in practice so I'm not jerking the gun. Secondary goal is holster clearing and drawing practice.

Jim,
I don't know much about the benchrest matches at GRRC, but I know one of the F-class guys that also shoots some BR. I just sent him an email to see if he has any contact info for the matches up there. I'll let you know what I hear.
