Possible DNR Grant Funding Loss

As many of you are aware the DNR has Trap Range and General Range Grant programs that provide matching funds for Club Improvements. I heard today from a contact within the DNR that they (DNR) are looking at taking that funding and placing it into their Gen Fund to make up for shortfalls if the do not get the funding they are asking for from the State Budget. This would be $500,000.00 From the Expiated Trap Range Program and 1.3 million from the General Range program. This is not set in stone, but is on the table. Last time they discussed this was in 2003 and they received about 400 emails, letters, etc and that made them back down. Stand by to do the same again if the looks like it will happen again, only this time we have about 350 + High School Teams with almost 13,500 youth shooting. Watch this POST for more info if it develops.

MODS - can we make this a sticky, until we find out more info?

Pretty much the same BS tactic that the Feds used during the last "Government Shutdown". They closed the National Parks to punish people in a visible way.

A little follow up on this subject. Spoke with the Grants contact people at the DNR, the $500,000 Trap Expedited money is GONE - the powers that be would not extend the program past June 2017 to burn up the money. Sounds like it will go to the DNR General Fund. The $1.3 million is still out there for at least another year and the program is being rewritten to allow for more Trap/Skeet improvements as well as Rifle/Pistol improvements

The DNR probably needed new trucks.

Nah, they need poker money to use while working instead of going out to the field.

We sure built a nice long gun and pistol range with great berms and fencing at the LeRoy Rod and Gun Club in the early 2000's. Great grant program.
