New Stage Prop For The Range!

Postby Scratch on Wed Jun 07, 2017 7:10 am

We built a new Shotgun-Door Breaching Prop to put down at the range and broke it in this past weekend.

It uses paracord and an old tire for weight to pull the door open.

Right now, I slide a 1X2 piece of wood in PVC pipes and shoot it apart, but I'm looking for ideas on how to use an AR500 plate to shoot instead of sticks to reset each time...

Here's a video about it with some action shots:

You could just use a chunk of tire to hold the edge of a piece of bar stock (or cut the plate so it has an "arm" sticking off it to the frame side).

Blue is your latch, red is the chunk of tire (or you could use any number of springs for the same effect), black is the bolt holding it to your door frame. Then put a hinge on your shoot plate mount to the door itself so the shot impact isn't transferred to the door.

Make sense?

That is very cool, thanks for sharing. I love your range and hope to have 1/2 of something like that some day.

A clay pigeon in the right spot can be used to initiate motion once it is broken. If the sticks become too problematic, I'm sure slight mods to your design could be made. I've also used a balloon behind a target to start a swinger or similar, but the hassle of transporting large numbers of balloons or filling them up on site was a bit too much trouble.

Anyway, thanks again for sharing and I look forward to your next video.

Pigeons need cleaning up too.

I talked to Steve last week after he posted this and look forward to what he comes up with.
