460 at the range

Postby Rodentman on Sat Jun 17, 2017 1:13 pm

I took the 460 to OGC today and shot it from my pistol rest with a rag draped across said rest to protect it. Here is the end result. Guess this is why you should not hold your hand under the pistol to support it.

Guess I'll never learn to not bother posting anything here until the forum finds another whipping boy.

Ahh, the joy of 65,000 psi and a cylinder gap.

Please don't stop posting. No disrespect meant, just trying to bring a little humor to the forum.

I do have a serious question though. How far was the towel from the cylinder? Right up against it or some distance away?

I had roughly mid barrel on the rest so the cylinder was about 2 inches from the rest. I couldn't really see the blast as the shooter but I know it's there. It IS great fun too. I was shooting reduced recoil loads of 30g Lil Gun. Don't have the bullet weight note in front of me...

RM is normally the guy making all the racket with his hand cannons. He let me shoot one of them the last time we were both at the range. I have a bad right wrist, and it took only 1 round for me to go back to my 9mm  I will stick with rifles if I'm looking for a lot of recoil. I admire Rodentman's beautiful handguns, but I'll just watch him shoot the big stuff ;)

I was on the 25 at 8:30 AM.

Next time I will bring the Coonan. Yeah only a .357 but it puts out a mighty blast!

The only cartridge that bothered me was a Buffalo Bore 440g that someone gave me. I think he gave me 10. I have 9 left. That sucker bounced the big X frame and took me by surprise. I think I need to get those fired soon.

Some lawyer in Arkansas was suing S&W because someone blew his thumb off by holding his hand under the cylinder. I wrote the lawyer a letter quoting the manual about that, and I said a few other things as well, always in my polite courteous demeanor.

Frankly I'd rather fire those cannons than a J frame 38spl. I had a 642 and traded it. That sucker really hurt.

I have a S&W 500, and love taking it too the range. Its the same thing though, some factory ammo is hot some isn't. I've had some I could shoot one handed, and others if you tried it one handed you might be on a funny video with the hammer embedded in your forehead! Regardless of what rounds I shoot, it makes people turn their heads, especially if you are shooting indoors.
