There is a church in the Mankato area that encourages their ushers to carry. I was contacted a week or so ago to do a private MN permit to carry class for the ushers of a different church in Southern Minnesota.

These churches are taking steps to protect their members.

I did a class this am for a group of church ushers and staff from a Mankato Church. Was a concern for them because the church has an attached school. I did a class last summer for another church in the area also.

What was the concern with the school?

Just their concern of running afoul of the law regarding weapons in school. Once we explained it to them - they had the Church Atty write a document for the School administration to sign and all was well.

Given the strib's attitude, I guess my attitude isn't that bad...

I feel closer to god in the great outdoors, so I tend not to go to a formal church unless for social reasons I have to.

Some metro churches, like mine, are scheduling active shooter training. We are assembling a Safety Team to send there. A comprehensive emergency plan will be developed as part of the overall effort. It will be a multi-layered approach with observation to try to be ahead of an issue, notification protocol, and shelter or evacuate actions as appropriate and if needed. Will know more after training.

A bit off topic, but here is an excellent interview done by Andrew Klavan today with the hero from the church shooting.

If God wanted me to go to church, he wouldn't have put the seats with their backs to the door.

Whatever you do, you have to make sure you include the word “Sheepdog” in the description or title.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
