Transferring Long Guns from CA

Postby Hemi on Fri Dec 15, 2017 6:44 pm

Hey everyone,

I unfortunately live in CA, and fortunately I'll be leaving and moving to MN (St. Paul area) around July/August. I searched earlier today on this site for info, but I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. So, if I missed it, my apologies..

Anyway, I plan to bring 8 rifles with me (1 built AR, 1 stripped AR lower, bolt actions, 10/22s, and a lever) with me. What is the law in MN regarding moving my rifles with me. Do I need to transfer them from my local FFL from CA to one in MN (I've read on another site that someone moved from AZ to MN and they where told they can just drive them up. That was in 2012, so I don't if anything has changed. I don't know if that was even good advice)? If a transfer is needed, will I need a MN license to regain possession of my own rifles from the FFL? If I do have to transfer them from state to state, what's the transfer fee in general? Also, what about bringing in ammunition? Of course if this is all a go, I'll check with states that I'll have to drive through to make sure I'm ok.

Thanks in advance.

Luckily Minnesota has no registration requirements. You're allowed to ship them to yourself, or bring them physically with you.

Welcome to the land of relative freedom.
Nothing to see here. Continue swimming.
