Dealing with looters, post-disaster?

Postby jdege on Thu Dec 28, 2017 12:12 pm

I ran across an interesting post by a sailor dealing with vandals and looters, after Irma.

I'm thinking Miami is not a place I'd choose to stay.

I prefer to not experience something like that.

Dealing with looters, post-disaster?

Postby george on Thu Dec 28, 2017 4:43 pm

My son lived and taught college in Miami for about six years. It's so bad he got a big bulldog for the house. Had to be so careful in Miami but he was use to it because before that he was in Detroit. Personally, I worried about him and his wife all the time. It's a shame that these big cities get this way but they have been this way for years, it's been 25 yrs since I was on the road and they were like that then, I had to guard the truck and trailer or stay in a fenced guarded area. I feel for him, they live on those boats, it's like everyone robbing and steeling your home.

Talk about your worst nightmare.

Your home, basically under siege during a disaster, apathetic and over-worked law enforcement, and a criminal base only interested in their own gain/benefit.

I don't see a "win" in that scenario anywhere. You actually shoot someone over property...and you're likely the one going to jail while it gets sorted out (leaving your home completely undefended)...but if you DON'T shoot someone, the thieves now know your gun is ceremonial...and act accordingly.
Nothing to see here. Continue swimming.
