Should I get a pistol or rifle AR9?

Postby Scratch on Fri Mar 16, 2018 12:16 pm

I've decided to get an AR9, but I can't decide if I should get a pistol or rifle.

This will most likely be a range toy to plink around with on steel and do drills with. Who knows, I may end up doing some PCC matches if I get the chance to.

I was initially thinking to definitely get a pistol with a Blade brace, since it's lighter, shorter, more maneuverable, and I could use it as a truck gun more easily, but I'm also wanting it to be a training tool to closely match my AR rifles, but be cheaper to shoot, and be able to shoot steel at close distances. With that in mind, I'm wondering if I should go rifle instead...?

Thoughts, opinions, suggestions, donations...?

BTW... I think I'm going with the CMMG Guard.

I've got a Just Right Carbine in 9 that takes Glock mags and it is fun toy. Very, very accurate. Only problem is you can burn through 100 rounds of 9mm like you are plinking with a 22.

What about a pistol lower and 2 uppers? One that is very similar to the uppers on the rifles you want to be proficient with, and one that can be your light truck gun...

Why stop over-thinking it there? One upper and switch barrels?

If you want to shoot PCC at a USPSA match the rules state " Must have stock attached and be capable of being fired from the shoulder position." **note Sig brace and any variant thereof is not allowed** This is in appendix D8 of the rule book.

Didn't know that.
Might have just made my decision...

...Not completely though so keep the input coming.

If I remember correctly, you can make a pistol into a rifle but not a rifle into a pistol. So if you buy a pistol AR you can make it into a rifle and switch back and forth. You cannot buy a rifle AR and make it into a pistol. ATF rules.
Because I care, I carry.

I'm no expert but I believe this is half correct. A pistol can can be turned into a rifle, but once a rifle- it cannot be turned into a pistol again. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I have had a 9mm rifle for about a year and put this together last night, just got back from Oakdale and it is pretty fun to shoot.
Now I just need to get the suppressor ordered.

Did you buy it as a rifle and then converted it to a pistol? That is not legal.
