Savage E-clips?

Postby goosed on Wed Mar 21, 2018 5:52 pm

While removing the sear for cleaning, I broke the sear pin retaining clip... OK that sucks, so I called savage first to see if they have replacement parts: they want $15 for part, $12 for shipping and they will only send it to an FFL. Ummm... no thanks. I figure it's worth a shot to at least look locally, it's just a standard e-clip after all, before I pay Savage's highway robbery.

Anyone got a spare one (not likely, huh?) or have suggestions which stores might carry a good selection of e-clips?

You rock! What they call the "safety retaining ring" sure looks like the part I want... Out of stock at Numrich, but cross referencing part #'s shows Brownells has it in stock. https://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/safety-parts/safety-retainers/safety-retaining-ring-prod12895.aspx

Oddly, their schematic does not show a sear retaining clip as it's clearly pointing to the clip that keeps the trigger pivot pin in place. Nor does it show up in Savage's target accutrigger parts list (see below). Yet I know that I am not just imaging that it was there when I took things apart... things that make you go hmmmmm.

ID# Description Part Number
2A Trigger Bracket Assembly 105442
2B Safety Retaining Ring 100336
2C Trigger Pivot Pin 105267
2D 6oz Safety Spring 106426
3 6oz Trigger Assembly 107323
4A Sear Pin 100223
4B Sear Spring 103894
4C Sear 6oz 106427

Because it's part of the fire control group.

They are well aware it's not required by law and everyone is very quick with the canned response "that's our policy, sir" along with passing you onto the next person. After the 4th person I got tired of the being put on hold for 5min or so between each person and just threw in the towel on getting it sent to my door.

So would they require this of a trigger?

Per the canned responses I received, yes. Any and all parts of the fire control group must ship to an FFL.

Check Fleet Farm, Napa, or Fastenal. $3.99 is still highway robbery.

Thanks, I'll check them out.

$3.99 is a bit high, but I can live with it... if it's the right part. I'm still a bit bothered by all the schematics not showing the clip that I broke. Though I might order it through Brownells anyways as I want some other things from them and it gives me a good excuse to place an order, right?

I will still take a look locally as well just in case it turns out not to be the wrong part. A backup or two couldn't hurt and I sure wouldn't mind putting a few more rounds down range with this gun this weekend.

If you have the broken clip, bring that and the corresponding pin with. FF will let you open packages to check the size, just get someone to assist you doing it. Might get lucky at an Oreilly's or the like too.

If you know the shaft diameter you might also find them on Amazon.
