AFAIK, as long as you are not otherwise prohibited from possessing a firearm, you should be OK. The law only addresses PURCHASE, not possession.
A couple other tidbits...
- You can legally purchase an MSR from FFLs at 18. However, you will need a PTP.
- You can legally purchase handguns from private parties at 18.
- That said, getting a PTP at 18 can be problematic. Many police departments are loath to issue permits to anyone under 21, even though the law allows them to stamp the permit indicating that it is valid for long gun purchases only.
