Another great article I recently found. Synopsis: disasters and upheaval surprisingly likely in the long run.

Interesting reading. Have to see if my nephews farm has room for a large extended family.

Indeed interesting. My guess would be allot of folks started stock piling ammo when Obama got elected.

I need to get some 223/556, I don't need a lot, with out my meds I will not last long. Prepping seems to be for the healthy.

Even healthy people probably don't need a LOT of ammo in a SHTF situation. If one gets into enough gunfights to go through hundreds (or thousands) of rounds of ammo, a bullet is likely to find you. Better to stockpile food, water, etc. Now, stockpiling ammo for supply disruptions is another issue entirely.

I live in a tiny town and I am disabled enough to need to have my brother blow out the driveway which can take awhile. So I try to keep enough bottled water, canned food and meds to last a week just incase.

I may get a generator for the spring storms to keep the freezer and ham radio running, that's all the prepping I am up too.

I liked the link http://www.shtfplan.com/emergency-prepa ... e_10252011 to the Bosnian war survivor. His advice first was
If i can give some advice: first to prep is a weapon and ammo, then everything else,
i have four kind of fire weapons with 2000 bullets for each
How much ammo ?

A LOT, as more as you can.

Heck, I could quote the whole post- read it yourself, it's literally tried-and-true advice.

I would imagine in some situations ammo becomes a key trade good.

Don't forget gold and silver bars.

I definitely think that if there is a SHTF moment, there will be a lot of trading value in guns and ammo. All the anti-gunners are going to suddenly want a gun and ammo to protect themselves. That will be sweet justice. Lol.

I need to order more 5.56/.223. And maybe some more build kits to just keep on the shelf.

I am most concerned about SHTF situations where once others know I have guns and/ or ammo to trade, someone will get the idea to just take them. Yes I can defend myself and family, but a small group of neer-do-wells could eventually take whatever a small family of defenders might have. Not without losses because defense has the advantage.

Once a disaster made it to the trading stage, we need a community for defense IMHO.

So, who has the most defensible property and can we make a pact that individuals can shelter there in exchfor what they bring to the group?

Wouldn't the best defense be to stay hidden?
