Rob Doar on Public TV Almanac

Postby daleamn on Wed Mar 13, 2019 2:39 pm

Many thanks to Rob Doar for going on the TPT (Public TV) show Almanac and debating the gun issue with Erin Zamoff. Rob Doar was exceptionally polite. He had logic and facts on his side. Erin Zamoff rattled off a bunch of statistics "proving" universal background checks (UBC) and red flag-gun confiscation laws dramatically lower gun violence and claiming 90% of Minnesota folk support UBC.

Rob Doar mentioned some studies that debunk UBC and Erin Zamoff just out of hand dismissed them. Rob Doar remained calm and polite.

Erin Zamoff also went to the emotional (not rational) "just one life" argument too.

And I had a jaw dropping, "oh my gosh" moment when the hosts of Almanac, Cathy Wurzer had the temerity to bring up a comment made during the hearings at the capitol "that neither bill (UBC and red flag-gun confiscation) would get a single gun off the streets of North Minneapolis" and Eric Eskola mentioned the concealed carry debates and how the anti-gun folk had thrown their hands in the air with "the streets will run red" and "the return of the wild west" comments, (please note these are NOT exact quotes from Eric Eskola).

I'm used to Public Radio and Public TV having gun debates between a gun-control person who hates and despises guns verses a "gun-rights" person who believes flintlocks should be allowed for the general populace but nothing else. Note: the flintlock should be allowed ONLY AFTER UBC, hours of training and testing, registration and insurance and periodic spot checks to make sure the flintlock is locked away properly in the home and the flints are locked away somewhere else. Sheesh!

You can listen to the March 8, 2019 Almanac episode here---the gun part of the show is at about the 16 minute mark.

Thank you.
I long ago abandoned watching Almanac as it has a negative effect on my blood pressure.

And it should go without saying (but it won't) a huge THANK YOU!! to Rob Doar. :bravo: :thankyou:

Rob did great!

We're always happy to participate in a debate rather than let things be an echo chamber -- it doesn't change our position that we're opposed to all gun control.

Did she say "almost the majority of firearm suicide deaths are by firearm"?

Also was that a BFL lapel pin?

Indeed, she stammered that out @ 23:24

I did not know what a BFL pin was until I googled it, and that certainly looked like a BFL lapel pin.

Robb really connected with Eric.
Nicely done.

Who knew. I wonder what the other firearm suicide deaths are caused by? Heart attack before the trigger can be pulled?

Great because they just contradict each other to the point that nobody’s mind will change.

"BFL" My Google search came up with "Backpacks For Life". Does it reference something else?

Did she say "almost the majority of firearm suicide deaths are by firearm"?

Yes she did say that. A sign the she was becoming flustered in the debate.

At some point in a debate in the media, stating statistics from studies or polls is not productive.

Rob, you represent our group well in the media. Thanks.

Bolt Face Logo, it’s the logo for AR15.com since it’s the bolt face on an AR and you can buy the lapel pin in their store.
