Who does barrel cutting

Am looking for a real good company that does real good work cutting barrels. I purchased the 16 inch 300 BO upper awhile ago and want to chop it down to 10.5 inches. Already have a 10.5 inch 300 BO. Difference in fps with my reloads is around 150 fps between the 10.5 and 16 inch with my 110 v max bullets. Has to be threaded. Don't want to go further than the metro but would be nice having someone around st cloud. Thanks.

Have you thought about the gunsmith program in Pine City? Perhaps the instructor needs a demo project...

I have a hacksaw, a bastard file, and a thread file you can borrow. :exactly:

You would need to post pictures here before, during, and after of your project. :booyah:

I thought with something like a Grendel you would need a plasma torch to deal with that mystical steel that everyone knows is there! Since this is a BO, a butter knife would work for a home job... :?

As to the OP, any decent gunsmith (ie one who has a lathe) should be more than able to cut a barrel, thread it, time it if needed, and recrown it. Depending on what finish it has, that might be a bit more of an issue. AR’s are not a complex thing to deal with...

The big thing is proving it was a pistol or registered SBR if you are going to 10.5. That’s what got Randy Weaver mentioned in the first place here. They probably will want to see the host lower to record SN.

I live south of the metro so my choices are not the same as St. Cloud.

My last two Grendels are stamped as Rearden steel ;)

Well, I do have a dremel. NOT going to happen. Hacksaw, nah. I purchased the upper from someone on this forum a few years back. Put it on a Aero lower. The lower is registered as other. Did find a 10.5 inch barrel for $100 bucks. Green mountain barrel. But since your brought up weaver, will have to think about it.

Not Valerian steel? To bad they are the low end ones.

Never built an upper so would have to say carbine length. Think I’ll just leave it as it and put my thermal on it. The weaver comment got me thinking. Have always bought uppers complete so I wouldn’t have to deal with issues. Since I have an empty lower after dumping the Grendel, maybe I’ll try putting one together after I get my Howa mini action put together I just got today.
