Removing Old Posts

Not sure if this is the place for this, so, of course, mods feel free to relocate.

Is there a way to remove old posts on here, short of manually going through your post listing and deleting them? I'm thinking of something like you can use on Twitter, to remove posts older than a certain date.

Or is this a fool's errand, as everything is saved on a server somewhere no matter what we do.

Yes, there's reasons to do this. No I'd rather not share them, except perhaps with a mod.

Thanks

I'm no mod and I can't answer for sure about whether it can be done. But typically on forums after a certain amount of time your ability to delete your post goes away. Not sure how many days. Forum posts are typically considered permanent.

Also, be aware that even if you can delete your own messages there are many times other people quote your posts and those aren't in your control and mods aren't going to search and delete those.

I've said some stupid stuff on hear over the years. Never really worried about deleting it though. For what it is worth.

I don’t think it matters at this point. 9000+ posts make you king of the hill!

hammAR has over 11.5K posts, and he's only in second place (to someone who has ONE post in the past 8 years), so there's no possible way H&H can be considered KOTH.

Exactly, the old guard has that title. Plus Strad could bury my post count anytime he put his mind to it.

You could ask the same of about 60% of the top posters:

Seismic Sam, Rugersol, and 1911fan (perhaps others), have left the range. Many of the rest just quit working on their post count.

Wow, that is quite a list. I haven’t thought about many of those guys for a long time. I suspect most don’t remember me as although I made it to a few breakfasts and gopher shoots back in the early days, other aspects of life eventually pulled me in other directions. Came back to the site only recently. Things actually seem a bit calmer than I remember, especially compared to the point when the referenced nonsensical ramblings and self proclaimed clout builders had completely taken over—in other worlds, there wasn’t a lot of talk about guns actually going on.

Still not a lot of actual gun talk going on. I miss the days of Breakfast at the gopher and lunch downtown.

Especially in the event some whippersnapper appears to menace his status.

Post count = irrelevant

Quality vs Quantity
