So when IS someone really a "gun nut"?

Postby Lumpy on Wed Mar 03, 2021 12:47 pm

Or at least what's the dividing line for you, that someone deserves the term "Mall Ninja"? "Compensating"? "Dirty Harry wannabe"? "Supremacist"? Or any of the other slurs the antis use to denigrate gun owners? Just as there are African-Americans who in their personal behavior actually sink to the level of the "N"-word, there are disgraces to gun ownership out there. What say you?

If you can't pay your bills or take care of your family but have purchased more than 1 gun in the last 3 months you might have a problem...but I don't think "gun-nut" is a pejorative any more than "baseball-nut" or "car-nut"...

Well, 'supremacist' is a term that should have zero to do with owning guns, first off.

As for the nut part, I'd say if a person is obsessed to the point of making a big deal out of owning or carrying guns they may qualify. But simply owning a lot, being really enthusiastic without showing it to the world (i.e. bragging or showing off) isn't any worse than being a big fan of any topic. This same scenario would also fit any other topic.

I would rather be a gun-nut - than a nut with a gun...........

Besides I am already a gun-toting, Bible-clinging despicable anyhow - so it don't mean nothing......................:flag:

Gun-nut is a positive, endearing term. Anyone who tells you otherwise is just a nut period.

I believe you are born to it and since you cannot deny that you were born that way, every person who self identifies has the right to be who they were born to be. If someone who identifies as a "gun nut" can't afford to purchase all the guns they need to satisfy their birthright, the Government should pay to right that injustice. We not only have to acknowledge the existence of gun nuts, we need to Celebrate and encourage those who are gun curious to come out and feel free to be who they are meant to be, with all the dignity and respect that non gun owners now enjoy. Do you really think I would choose that lifestyle and suffer all the prejudices and burdens if I had a choice? I demand my rights to be who I was born to be. !

I ask because on another forum I participate in there have recently been some really vicious but admittedly well-written attacks on the very mentality of people who carry; and I'm trying to compose a good rebuttal. Links below are not for the faint-hearted:
