What would it take to convince you to serve as a juror in the Derik Chauvin trial?

Ain't no way I'd walk into that minefield.

Dunno what it would take, but I would point out that he'll be judged by a jury of his peers...none of which were smart enough to get out of jury duty.

If ever there was a case that needed a change of venue, this is it.

How on earth are they going to find someone who hasn't heard of this case or hasn't formed an opinion. Makes for an excellent appellate case when you have a obviously tainted jury pool.

On the other hand,, I'd be frightened to have jurors who are so socially removed that they don't have any knowledge. That would be a very large rock to be living under.....

People always say stuff like this and then wonder why we get so many weird jury decisions. The whole system depends on reasonable jurors.

How would you like to end up in court after a defensive shooting and be judged by a jury "none of which were smart enough to get out of jury duty".

I've only done one trial as juror but I'd do it again.

But how do you find these "reasonable" jurors when they will all be under threat from the mob?

Except that I would pity any city that had to take it on. Best to keep all the destruction localized as much as possible.

Good point. Leave it in Minneapolis. They started the problem and put up with the destruction last summer, why curse another city with that mess.....

What would it take? It would take one of two things:

Either the evidence against Chauvin would have to be so watertight, so damning, that I could vote guilty with a clean conscience-

Or else to vote not guilty, I'd have to be black.

What I don't understand is why he and the other three seem to have opted for jury trials. I would think a judicial trial would be a much better option for their cases.

Anyone know why or want to posit an idea?

I would do it without hesitation nor bias. Even though I'm aware of the case, I would listen to what evidence was presented, then what the defense had to say. Then, and only then, would I make up my informed decision as to his guilt or innocence. I would especially be listening for the actual facts of how the drugs in Floyd affected his actions, and his demeanor.

Of course, due to my race, I highly doubt I would ever be picked for the jury. I don't believe Chauvin is going to get a fair trial. Now, that I see they want to reinstate the 3rd Degree charge, I believe the prosecution knows that their case is quite weak, and they aren't willing to try and prove the 2nd Degree charges.

With one decider it's probably worse than a coin-toss that you'll get someone that cares more about "social-justice" than actual justice. With 12 deciders odds are pretty strong you'll get at least 1 or 2 people that care about actual justice more than "social justice". It only takes 1 to hang a jury.

Anyone on the jury is risking their lives. If the mob don’t like the outcome, you can bet they will go after the folks on the jury. Since the city counsel approves how police do there jobs, unless there is evidence that was never released to the public that shows this cop went beyond his approved training, can’t see anymore than involuntary manslaughter or just manslaughter. Unfortunately, Minneapolis will burn again regardless of the verdict.
