Hornady Mfg is planning to expand its Grand Island Facility

Postby Stugotz on Sat Sep 11, 2021 7:10 am

More space is needed for the company’s ammunition manufacturing operations, President Steve Hornady told The Independent. 8-)

Since Biden banned Russian ammo imports and Russian ammo is approximately 40% of the ammo purchased in the USA every year the American ammo companies need to scale up FAST!

With the multiple contracts Hornady has with the government, doubt any of it will go to the civilian market.

No, source on 40% of ammo is imported from Russia.

Following some sources from that link, one finds that Russian ammo represents less than 22% of all imported ammo.
I never got to any credible source on what percentage of the US ammo supply is imported.
If one assumes 1/2 of our ammo is imported, that would put the Russian contribution at slightly more that 10% of the total US ammo supply.

I think it was ammoland. Maybe they meant (or even said and I missed it) 40% of rifle ammo? Pretty easy for the AK and AR "mag-dumpers" to be the majority of center fire ammo expended when compared to deer hunters and ELR shooters.

But they pale in comparison to trap and sporting clay shooters.

But the real question is... how can a place named Grand Island not be an island?

I meant centerfire rifle ammo; got distracted by infant mid-post and left off one word that could be inferred by context from the previous sentence.

I bet if you do the research you would find that that is also not true. I would bet that the 40% figure is of steel cased rifle ammo. ;)

But it is. Or at least was.

I read a figure of 40% somewhere on the internet. To be perfectly honest, the MAIN point I wanted to pass along was that "Hornady Mfg is planning to expand its Grand Island Facility".

The figure could have been 1.00324571%. Makes no difference to me, I could really care less... I have never (nor will I ever) shoot that crap.

Now go through and scrutinize other percentages post here (or on other forums for that matter) if it makes your day... End of Rant.
