His ears are pretty big compared to his head.

He’s fat, but not really big it looks like to me.

That’s no 3-400 pound black bear.

My thoughts too. Not only are then ears big but the bear itself does not say, "big." "Fat", yes but not big. I think it was Jack O'Connor that said something like, "One doesn't have to ask if something is truly big."
