Where to buy from private parties?

Postby silvor on Mon Dec 05, 2022 7:32 pm

First I don’t care about showing my permit or ID, or transferring via FFL, it’s more about cost..,

So are there any places for private sales now? Armslist only? (fees, ugh). This place is dead. AR15 local is light.

Any others?

What you said is exactly why places like this are dead…

Everyone wants to save, and the sellers all want top $.

The sellers look at the auction type places and think it’s worth $$$$$

Buyers remember what stuff sold for 2-3 years ago and think $.

Occasionally someone is not mercenary, and they tend to show up occasionally.

I look at what’s for sale, but what I’m looking for is kind of odd nowdays.

There are about a dozen MN specific firearms groups on MeWe for private transactions, ammo, reloading, collectors, hunting etc... Very active with post and stuff in the chats. Many members here are also in these MeWe sites.

Regarding pricing, Bingo. People ask above new prices for used stuff, often. Do you want to get rid of it, or do you want to tell your wife you're trying to sell something? There's a fine line between unusual and just odd. I could go on, but you get the idea.

Just remember, anything on gunjoker or armslist or any of the national sites has transfer fees probably coming and going, plus shipping. Dims those prices a bit.

I have bought and sold many things on this list and frankly, this is about the only list where I would trust everyone.

What are you looking for? Another very active and trustworthy site is Brian Enos classified forum.

I have done well on MEWE but you have to vet the sellers, just sold an AR Kit to a local there, it was below list price and sold for less than I bought it for but I did not have the time to put it together.

Gun shows are a good source. It’s in a public area and usually safe. If you have your PTP or CCW you are good to go!

I think he meant it was a safe place to meet for a private transfer arranged elsewhere.

The only time I bought at a gun show, it was an FFL that had the pistol I wanted and I do think I could have gotten a better deal at a local store.

I have found good buys on all the venues mentioned including Gunbroker, Brians site and Armslist but due diligence is always the key factor. IE waited almost 2 years for one that I was looking for to be sold at a reasonable price. Just the same for any online sales of any product.
