Need an indoor pistol range!

Postby Cortney1980 on Wed Feb 25, 2009 11:18 pm

Hi all. Im pretty new to this and I just want to get some help. I want to take my other half to a shooting range...but Im at a loss as to where to go. I live in the south metro and I am looking for an indoor pistol range that rents firearms. Im looking for a place that is reasonably priced as far as lane fees, rentals, ammo, targets etc. Any help anyone can give me would be great... thanks.

Thanks to all of you. I am honestly just looking for a place to take my bf for a fun date. He lives to shoot and since Im afraid of guns, i dont really want them around the house...so he doesnt have any. So basically, I am just looking to get him out to shoot (he likes little handguns) so he can have fun and I want to try it to ease my fear of guns and maybe bring us closer... i know... what a chick thing to say....but thanks for all the input. Im hoping to get him out sometime in march to shoot and by the looks of it, it just might be at Bill's. Who knows, I just may get into guns and shooting and have to meet some of you guys to teach me a thing or two... lol. thanks again.

Welcome to the site, stick around and you will find a wealth of knowledge and fun people.

Bills is in Robinsdale, Burnsville Pistol Range is maybe closer to you, but I do not think they rent, however, they are people around here who can help you out if you are looking to try certain models of guns, most of us are very willing to share the joy of shooting our guns.

Well, depending on what you consider 'reasonably priced', the place you want is either 'nowhere', or Bill's in Robbinsdale. If you hint around enough here or on the other place, though, you might be able to get people to meet you there and let you try their guns, and save a lot on rentals. (I only have .38/.357 revolvers myself).

If you want to try out a whole bunch of guns for a reasonable price (by reasonable I mean FREE), be sure to check out our Spring Shooter's Show on April 3-5th. All you pay for is ammo.

About half the time I go to Burnsville Pistol Range, I've met nice enough people in lanes beside me, that if you strike up a conversation, usually there is some willingness to try each other's stuff.

Trade em a magazine worth of yours for a magazine worth of theirs. No big deal.

But no rentals. If you do not have any firearms, this will be an issue. Best place for rentals would be bills, although you are required to purchase their ammunition for the rentals. Good news is that you can apply the cost of the rental towrads a purchase there. Bad news, is that (no offense fellas) their guns are kinda pricey, and thanks to Barry Messiah's fear mongering they aren't getting any cheaper. Come to some of the events, meet some of the people. many would take little coaxing into a range trip so you can try numerous firearms for the price of consumables.

Most here like to shoot and are willing to share. Maybe let some here know what you are looking for as far as firearms and I would think some would be willing to share and give you some tips to boot. Even if it cost you a meal, that would be a lot cheaper than renting several guns from a range. The other thing that I have heard, don't know if it is true or not, but I heard that some of the range guns may not be all that well maintain, thus not function very well. That type of situation would not give you a good impression of that single firearm, when it is probably a very reliable gun but being shot a lot and lack of cleaning would cause it to not function reliably.

If you would be in the Southern Minnesota area, like Hunters Den in New Ulm, I would be more than willing to meet and share.
