Ammo mistake??

Postby hrt jr on Thu Apr 16, 2009 10:20 pm

Stopped at Mills man mall in St Cloud and was suprised to find a great selection of handgun ammo. (Blazer aluminum case?)
Now being a newbie with very limited understanding about several concepts I asked is this range ammo that my very new LCP and smith 442 can shoot?
Sure, just can't reload it was the response. Now that it's home and we are planning a rural shoot to start to break in both, the 380 is fmj but no jacket for the 38 special. Will no jacket hurt the new smith?? Does the lead leave a mess?? Please advise, Thanks

You can not shoot the aluminum case ammo at a good majority of the indoor ranges, that is the down side (probably does not apply to your rural shoots). It should not hurt your gun firing it through, but aluminum case ammo can sometimes act more finicky in some guns when compared to brass case ammo (more feeding issues) ... Just depends on the gun. Give it a shot.

t the levels its loaded to, that .38 lead ammo should never really leave any leading and is what the round was loaded with for many many years

The only problem I foresee with the 38's is they can be a little sticky extracting from the cylinder. Otherwise you should have no problem.
Decrypt the points of departure and return your head slowly and you do not cancel your hair.

Never had any problems with aluminum Blazer. In fact, my XD(M) seems to love it. I do have some tiny aluminum shavings in the gun when I clean it but that has never caused any issues and one squirt of canned air from a dust remover takes care of that.
I have a Colt Python and you don't so what do I care...

I find aluminum cased ammunition can be hit or miss on some guns. For instance my Beretta CX4 and Springfield XD will feed aluminum cased ammunition without a hitch. Meanwhile my Springfield 1911 jams up constantly if I feed it aluminum cased rounds. You'll just have to test it in your guns to see if it works well.
