What's the coolest target/object you have shot?

Postby yukonjasper on Mon May 04, 2009 12:32 pm

This is an idea I got off of Strad's video where he is shooting apples. I'm wondering what items members have shot and what they have shot them with that gives unique results.

I'm thinking .45 hollow point into a musk melon - that sort of thing.

I'm not a You Tube guy - gets blocked at work - bit it would be fun to record some different combinations to see what has the most spectacular impact.

Let me know your ideas or your experiences.............

Feel free to move this if it should be in Off Topic - wasn't sure........

I'd like to add some rules:
Has to be inanimate targets - I'm not looking for "baby goat sculls with a bazooka" - although prarie dogs and a well placed .223 round can bring a bit of a grin............ :)
Has to be with fairly common weapons - see bazooka reference above.
Deo Adjuvante Non Timendum - (with the help of God there is nothing to be afraid of)

Full-auto 30-06 rounds from a BAR into a 20lb propane tank
Decrypt the points of departure and return your head slowly and you do not cancel your hair.

Nice suggestions.
So have you actually hit a 20lb propane cylinder? What happened?

I'm wondering whether anyone has tested the - shoot out the tires or hide behind a car door test. not that you have actuallty hid behind a car door to see if a slug penetrates, but whether you have shot a car doors to see what penetrates?

I'm also thinking that a watermelon would explode when hit with a 12 guage slug. I've never tried it, but seems like it would.

I've heard about this tanerite stuff, what's the story on that? Sounds like it wouldn't be legal.

A "steel" target for me:

It wasn't a "45" though.
It turns out that what you have is less important than what you do with it.

Nice, hard to beat that one.

I have started some campfires by putting a balloon with gas on top of a stack of wood with a lit candle at the base of the stack. Shoot the balloon with a .22 from a safe distance, say at least 40 yds. It saves you a lot of time not having to screw around with kindling and tinder, the logs can be wet too. Nice big fireball lifts the spirit.
I have a Colt Python and you don't so what do I care...

I still think my favorite target was the old upright piano at the 4H camp dump that we used to shoot at with a single-shot .22 (but part of my love for this one was that it was dad teaching us to shoot, and then letting us two boys take the .22 out without him after he was confidant that we had part of a clue). if you got the angle right, you could strum a whole cord! (OK, maybe not a true chord, bet we didn't care - and weren't musically inclined anyway!).

other fun targets over the years:
thick glass gallon jugs full of water - surprised we survived these unscathed, since we weren't smart enough back then to actually wear eye protection, and a few times we were a little too close from a safety standpoint! although, I think the only actual blood drawn was a nick on a cheek!
raw eggs
full pop cans (or sh!tty beers)
we always wanted to do propane tanks, but were either too cautious or smart enough not to! (I'm not going to admit/claim which!)
ripe cattails - these can be tricky! if you hit them too center-line, sometimes you just break them so they fall down instead of going poof!, to close to the edge and you just graze off a few floaters. and distance can be adjusted for more or less difficulty level...
chunks of ice - more fun if the sun is shining right so you get a nice rainbow effect, and also fun if your using blocks from teh lake once it gets nicely candled and also has pockets of already melted water.

Probably .22, 30-30, and 12 gauge into an old junker car out in my friend's woods. It's fun watching what a shotgun will do to car windows.

Distance and earmuffs are recommended :D now if you want to get a little more reliable ignition then p.m. me for the real good recipe, and yes its perfectly legal
