Anoka gun show

Postby smacsteve on Sun May 17, 2009 1:53 pm

I stopped by the gun show in Anoka today and had a look. It had been a few years since I'd been to a gun show and although this was smaller than I expected it was not bad. I was a bit surprised on how much some things were although I wasn't sure what to expect. Handgun ammo was ridiculously overpriced even for this bare market. I guess if you've got none and you can't find it it just depends on what you feel is fair. I've been able to store up enough that I can pick and choose when I want to get mine. I was hoping to find some decent deals on semi-auto rifle lowers and fully assembled stuff, but there wasn't much of that and what they did have was at a premium. I'd rather buy from someone I know and trust to protect against a faulty product. Anyone else go and care to share?

I went on Saturday specifically to pickup a soft case for my AR. A dealer I knew would be there had what I thought I wanted so it was a chance to trial fit the case. I did buy it only bad part was cost me an extra $10 when you add adminssion cost for me and my son.

But the case is exactly what I wanted, it firs great and the price(even with the $10) was still OK.

The rest of the show was the same typical stuff and yes prices were high on many things.

Interesting though I did see a number of lowers for 169-199 bucks. High price, but available so maybe the supply is starting to back fill.

Most gun shows thrown by Crocodile Productions are more military memorabilia then guns. That's fine, it's their schtick but it means they are usually pretty small.

I to have been noticing lower AR prices mmcnx2. I think the market has become saturated enough with AR-15 rifles that supplies are coming back and prices are lowering. It's about time honestly. Now I just want the reloading supply market to do the same thing.

I walked through Saturday morning, saw some $30 a box Federal 9mm, and some $55/1000 primers, I hope they had to drag that stuff all home with them today.
Nothing I had to take home with me, some gun prices outrageous, others normal, and a few good deals.
Remember, gun control is not about guns, it's about control.

Was in on Sunday with my Dad and FiL. Dad tried to buy a .22 revolver. Tried to use his Federal retired LEO Carry Permit for the purchase. Gal running the NIC's table denied him. Just last year, he bought a Carbon-15 from Cabela's using the same Permit with no problems.

Further, Cabela's had the Taurus PT-145 I've been drooling over for a while now. Price tag was $329. Guy at the Fun Show had one for $369. I asked him if I could see the one in his display case. While I'm handling it, I mention that Cabela's had the exact same pistol for cheaper. He looks at me, says "that's a good price", reaches over and take the pistol right out of my hands. Then he proceeds to put it back in his display case and walks away from me without another word.

I wasn't trying to dicker him down but he still acted like a complete a-hole.

The St. Paul show was better. More variety and less junk. More elbow room too.

My dos centavos.

Minnesota requires proof that a Minnesota background check has been completed on the buyer. Federal doesn't cut it I'm afraid.

A Federal background check is a Federal background check.

PUBLIC LAW 108–277 926C Sub d.
‘‘(2)(A) a photographic identification issued by the agency from which the individual retired from service as a law enforcement officer; and
‘‘(B) a certification issued by the State in which the individual resides that indicates that the individual has, not less recently than one year before the date the individual is carrying the concealed firearm, been tested or otherwise found by the State to meet the standards established by the State for training and qualification for active law enforcement officers to carry a firearm of the same type as the concealed firearm.

Annually, retired LEO getting the Federal permit to carry exceed the MN requirements for a permit to carry/purchase.

Carry yes - purchase maybe

Much depends on what agency your Dad retired from, and whether or not that agency has performed a state-level check.

HR 218 provides no blanket authorization to purchase a firearm, and even active law enforcement officers are required to provide proof of a state-level background check before undergoing a federal (NICS) check.

Issuing Agency is the Dept he retired from. Meets or Exceeds all of the State criteria.

Correct - and he can use that to carry a firearm. He can also use it to purchase a firearm provided a) he retired from a Minnesota agency and b) he has certified proof that he has passed a current Minnesota background check by that agency. This is known as a letterhead purchase. For this same reason, an active LEO can't make a purchase just by showing his badge.
