Kids & Guns, day 1

Postby Gunhorde on Mon Jun 01, 2009 11:02 pm

First of all, I want to thank every member here who donated ammo, or offered to help at the range this past weekend. Invaluable assistance was provided on Saturday by Dave Klitzke (MNIceman), many thanks for the photos and general range assistance. The response by the kids AND their parents was nothing short of amazing. Roger Hird at the Burnsville Rifle & Pistol Range brought out a bunch of his Class-3 firearms for everyone to look at and handle for the two days as well. The sequence of firearms each of the 10 students were able to fire was as follows:

Rifles:

1. BSW W625B single-shot "Hitler Jugend" training rifle
2. U.S. .30 Caliber M-1 Carbine
3. German "IX 43" depot rebuilt 8mm K.98 Mauser
4. Early U.S. M1903 Springfield (ca. 1909) with 1943 dated barrel, "Hatcher Hole" modification
5. U.S. Springfield Armory M-1 Garand - 1944 receiver, 1943 barrel
6. Russian 1943 Tula Mosin-Nagant M91/30, hex receiver, fired with attached bayonet
7. Russian SVT-40, 1941 dated Kovrov arsenal

Pistols:

1. 9mm German 1936 dated S/42 P.08 Luger, Police unit marked
2. 9mm German 1943 Walther P.38
3. .45 ACP Colt M1911

Here's a few photos from Saturday...

Looks like a blast. This is something I wish I could have done when in school.

Glad to see all the kids seemed to be having fun there. Score a few more for the possible gun nuts of the future.

By the way Gunhorde great job at setting this up.

Thanks for all the nice comments, it was hard work as I've never done this before, but it was well worth it given the look on all of the kids faces.... :yippee:

It was a learning experience for myself as well as the kids, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat!! :woohoo:

Very cool John, I enjoyed seeing the photo's. That was quite a collection, I noted quite a few firearms I recognized from the WWII time period. very cool to see.
