The remaining four of six defendants accused in the beating of a suburban dad last year at Valleyfair have entered guilty pleas to felony assault.

Derry Evans, 20, of Minneapolis; Terry L. Arnold, 23, of Brooklyn Park; Andrew D. Shannon, 20, of Minneapolis, and Anthony C. Gildersleeve, 21, of Edina each pleaded guilty to third-degree assault, a felony, in Scott County District Court. Arnold entered his plea May 28, Shannon pleaded June 1, and Evans and Gildersleeve pleaded June 4. All four will be sentenced at 1 p.m. Aug. 4.

Darris D. Evans, 21, of Brooklyn Park and DeVondre Q. Evans-Lewis, 19, of Columbia Heights pleaded guilty to felony third-degree assault on April 13. They will be sentenced June 22.

The guilty pleas for all defendants are to a lesser charge than first-degree assault, which most of the men were charged with following the July 5 attack that occurred shortly after midnight at the Shakopee amusement park.

The men are accused of taking turns stomping on and kicking the head of a 41-year-old Apple Valley man. He was knocked unconscious as his wife and three daughters tried to help him. He suffered broken bones to the face, cuts and a serious head injury.

Prosecutors say the fight began when one of the suspects harassed and assaulted the victim's 15-year-old daughter. The man was attacked as he stepped in to intervene.

I hope sentencing will include the words "may you rot in hell" I do believe that there is sufficient reason for a judge to put aside the mandated sentencing guidelines and lock this group of vermin up until they are senile and incontinent,

This is one of the few times that I'd strongly support a judge if he chose to make an example of these idiots. Normally I'd prefer the judge to stick to what the law says, word for word. But this time these guys should have been charged with attempted murder at least. 6 guys stomping on 1 guy's head sounds like that to me. Hope the judge runs hard for a very strong sentence, and doesn't spare the horses.

Great. I'll probably be seeing at least one of these idiots at work within the next several months. Oh well, it's part of the job.

As far as concealed carry goes, I thought the same thing when the story broke last summer. It would've been nice if the Dad could've stopped the threat with a few places shots. I hate to say it, but it would be better to have killed a thug or two in a legitimate self-defense shooting than to have an innocent man suffer tremendously because of the heinous acts of a group of thugs.

Kicking someone in the head can constitute deadly force. Felony assault is not a bad charge to which to plead out. If some of those guys had gone to trial, they could've been facing attempted 2nd degree murder or similar.

These thugs will receive a relatively light sentence, because "The Dad" started the physical fracas, not the punks.
As he was the initial agressor, this precludes him from using deadly force until he regained his reluctant participant status.

They might .. MIGHT.. get 10 days in the workhouse. More likely a stayed sentence.

Good point. This is Minnesota after all, and our news sources all seem to have a certain slant to them, if you know what I mean. The Minneapolis Star Tribune is way off in la la land, and the Pioneer Press isn't too far behind. Our local network affiliates aren't any better, especially WCCO.
