Utah permit processing time

Although many (most??) of the participants in this Forum likely know, the processing time in Utah is much longer than hoped for. I get a lot of calls and e-mails essentially saying "how come it is taking so long to get my Utah Permit?"

The simple answer is that the good folks in Utah are overwhelmed with applications.

The Utah authorities have a website where they give updates on "where they are at" in the processing schedule. If you are waiting for your permit to arrive, you might want to add this to your bookmarked sites: http://bci.utah.gov

Here is what it says as of 9-28-07:

We are currently processing concealed permit applications for out-of-state residents received on May 7, 2007

The date of your cancelled check or credit on your credit card indicates what day we received your permit application. Please be aware that we are also backlogged on receipting the applications.

Please be patient while we catch up on our backlog.

Yup, it's taking a long time. I sent my (Utah) application in on April 16, the check was cashed May 8 and I got my permit last week.

They report they are processing June 15 applications as of 10/2 so they are catching up, slowly, but surely!
