Campus Safety Alert
October 1, 2007

On 10/01/07 at approximately 1:15 p.m. a female victim walked into
Wilson Library on the West Bank of the University of Minnesota Campus. A
male suspect followed her into the building and eventually offered to
assist her with finding materials in the library. The suspect led the
victim to a remote staircase where he grabbed onto her and briefly held
her against her will. The victim yelled and fought back until witnesses
responded to the disturbance. The suspect then let go of the victim and
ran out of the building while being chased by witnesses. The suspect was
last observed running in the area of the Riverside Plaza apartment
complex near Cedar Avenue / Riverside Avenue in Minneapolis.

_The suspect is described as:_

* White male
* Mid 20's to Mid 30's
* Stocky build
* Height 5'10" to 5'11"
* Receding light blonde hairline
* Unshaven
* Wearing a light colored T-shirt, baggy blue jeans, a dark colored
leather jacket with light stripes on the sleeve, and white shoes
with green soles

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact the
University of Minnesota Police Department at 612-624-COPS (2677).

Police ask students to remain vigilant about their safety. Be aware of
your surroundings and if someone appears to be following you, try to go
to a public place with other people and call police. When walking on
campus and in the blocks adjoining campus, people can call 624-WALK for
