Need Dell Latitude D500 restore CD

Postby cobb on Wed Mar 03, 2010 3:13 pm

Does anyone have a restore CD that will work with or for a Dell Latitude D500? This is my old laptop from work and it has been wiped clean. I need to install an operating system so that I can use it for the Key City Conservation Club membership and electronic card key system.

So if you have one or know where I can get one, please let me know.

Presumably you have a Windows key on a sticker on the machine somewhere? The number on that will work with a lot of the 'illegal' copies of XP online and would be legitimate.

Yup, just make sure it's a generic XP OEM disc in the correct flavor (Home or Pro).

Win XP? I should have one that works. Probably could dig a Win 2k if needed.

I have a dell oem home and also a professional XP restore cd. These disks contain only basic drivers and os though, you would need to hunt down any propeitary drivers on your own. If you want them shoot me a mail with your addy and i will get them in the mail tomorrow. Also you will need an activation code for each of them, should be on a sticker on your comp

Another question.

Yes, it does have the Microsoft sticker, but it is for windows 2000. So will that key work if I try to install XP?

Thanks, I assumed so.

So I will have to rephrase my need.

Does anyone have a Windows 2000 restore CD that will work with or for a Dell Latitude D500? Or does anyone have any application version with an activation code to go with it?

It sounds like he's got some kind of proprietary hardware/software setup. Likely a nightmare, if not impossible, to get working in Linux.

I would agree. But I can confirm that D500's work with Ubuntu nicely.
