Let it drop,no interest any longer I guess ?

I have been trying to find some of them big ol saw ammo cans ( sawbox ),everyplace I look they are sold or way over priced.
I did find a guy in st.cloud that sells them for $6.50 / ea but ya have to buy them by the pallet ( 72 cans ),so figured maybe if we get enough interest here we can pool the cash for a pallet ?

I am in for 10 cans + gas chip in for whomever has a truck to pick them up or ?

EDIT : ok talked to doug...he does not like mix and matching as they come boxed up on a standard 4x4 pallet, however he has a shipment coming in friday and he is going to call me after he gets his delivery and see if he has any partial pallets to mix n match.

He said you can get 2 pallets on a 8ft pickup bed w/ no topper.

Can we get a head count to what everyone wants as far as sizes you want in case he can mix them ..

EDIT 5/29 ....Doug called, got a partial pallet of 30 and 50 and asked for a specific count,so post exactly what you want.

EDIT : 5/30

No mixing, you want 30 or 50 cans you have to buy via his store..... :|

And he also wants tax on the 72 saw can pallet and claims he only has one pallet of saw cans ... :?:

:hmm:

I'd be in for 5, though I'd be just as interested in the smaller sizes as well.

Might have trouble getting the SO to carry one of those saw boxes full of .45 acp.

I stocked up on cans not too long back, but I could probably use a couple more. I'll also try to check with a couple buddies that might like some too... (if so, I'll edit here to reflect some actual numbers...)

Edit: OK, I'm in for 7 ... could still talk with a couple other folks if we don't have them all spoken for

(do we have any idea/guarantee on quality? the last ones I got from AmmoCans were basically flawless - but they were also $10 instead of $6.50...)

I see commitments for 45 so far (add 5 for me, and that brings it to 50). Anyone have some dimensions on the cans? I might be able to provide transportation, but would like to know if I can fit them in the bed of my truck before I commit to that. Timing could also be an issue, as I'll be out of town this weekend and next weekend, so the earliest I would be available would be June 6.

If he's selling them by the pallet, most standard pallets are about 4 feet by 4 feet square, some are smaller. Those have always fit between the wheel wells of most 1/2ton and larger pickups. I assume the can's would be stacked within that 4'x4' square, though we'd want to ask for sure. If its a 1/4 ton truck (Ranger, S10, toyota, etc I don't know)

This was all true for the hundreds of pallets of seed I fetched for the farm at least.

If the seller will let you take them off the pallet and place them in the truck, I think any pickup with bed sides would fit the 72 cans no problem.

The smaller 30 cal cans must be about 12'' long by 8'' high by 4'' wide or so. The largest box might be twice that volume. Feel free to correct me, just going by memory here.

I have a GMC Canyon, so loading them on the pallet wouldn't be an option for me. I was thinking I could transfer the cans off the pallet and into the bed of my truck, and figured if I could fit them in what is in effect a 5' X 3/5' bed, I'd be willing to pick them up.

It's just as easy for me to pickup my 20 in St Cloud as it would be to head upto the Twin Cities if that helps. Do spend a couple of days a week in St.Boni so I could take more and deliver them there, but I only have a Civic so I don't have that much space.

I see. Might be close. Again I'm just going off vague memories and estimates. I borrowed some ammo can dimensions from another post by a guy named, well, Ammocans. Hope he doesn't mind, if so please feel free to delete.

GMC website advertises either 37 or 44 cubic feet of cargo volume.

So rough idea includes the following (I'm bored at the moment): OP said Saw Cans which were the largest of the 3 available sizes in the craigslist add.

40mm - 17.5" long x 5.5" wide x 9.5" deep = 914 cubic inches per can
25mm - 13 x 5.25 x 13.25 = 904 cubic inches per can
AN/PSV - 11.25 x 5.5 x 12.5 = 773 cubic inches per can
.50 - 11.5 x 5.75 x 7 = 463 cubic inches per can

So lets use the An/PSV numbers just as a guess. 773 cu. in = 0.447 cu. ft. per can. If your truck bed is the smaller of the two listed above, you have 37 cubic feet of space. In theory that means you would be able to fit 82 cans in your truck bed. 82 (maybe less if wheel well space is subtracted) cans in your bed. (I believe that means flush with the bed rails, not stacked higher and tarped or strapped down.

All said, I think with some straps taken along just in case boxes are over the bed rail height, it would be a solid bet that you could haul 72 of those cans in that Canyon. I think I've over-estimated the size of these ammo cans, so hopefully there is even more room to allow in your truck.

I have had entirely too little beer if I'm willing to figure that out. I may need to go cry a little.

You can do better than $6.50 for a sawcan and not some rusted - banged up ones ?

I'd be in for 5. What's the total now? Pretty close?

BigJim - 10
AgAuTHORITY - 20
EJSG19 - 5 (2xsaw, 3x30 or 50)
RobD - 10
Tullibee - 7
MNNavy - 5
Squib Joe - 6
richark1 - 5
gunshop guy - 2 (2x50's)
xd9 - 3 (3x50's)
Joat - 6

We've got about 79 that committed through this thread.
