I have an SR9c and really like it as an all around home defense pistol - great trigger, ambi safety & mag release (I'm a lefty), and accurate to shoot. That said, I wouldn't want to carry it b/c it's a doublestack (personal pref). Therefore, I'd lean toward the Shield for carry simply because it's a singlestack. Both are great pistols. Now, if Ruger came out with a singlestack SR9c, I'd get it in a heartbeat (yeah, I know about the LC9 - not interested).

M&P9 shield

One more note about the Shield while I am thinking about it...I wear it left handed and have to be careful to check the magazine from time to time...for some reason I keep bumping the release and sometimes find the mag no longer seated. Anyone else encounter this?

I don't have a Shield (yet), but soft mag catch spring was a problem on the early M&Ps. The straight rod-type piano wire spring, in combination with the large portruding magazine catch button, led to many complaints about dropped mags. On my 40C, I replaced the spring with a larger guage piano wire and that fixed the problem for me. It's been a few years, but I believe S&W was selling a redesigned mag button as a repair, although it's possible they beefed up the spring on later models too. Some guys used to sand down the mag release button too, so the holster wouldn't engage it. I haven't heard of that being an issue on the Shields, but in light of the similar design, it's not surprising the problem still exists.

I have been pocket carrying my Shield all day and it's not too bad. Definitely heavier compared to the J-Frame but not as bad as my M&P 9c. I am using the DeSantis Nemesis holster.
