OldmanFCSA reloading training

I had the extreme pleasure of spending the better part of today learning the basics of reloading from OldmanFCSA and I am here to say it was quite a good time! Up to this point all I had done to get into reloading was read Lyman's 49th edition, watch some videos on Youtube, and work my way through the back posts here. OldmanFCSA walked me through the whole process start to finish; we talked through equipment, powders, primers, bullet styles, cases, technique, and everything in between. In between getting the low-down on every stage of reloading I also had the pleasure of getting the full tour of his shop and let me say that the tour alone was worth the drive!

For anyone who wants to get into reloading but is intimidated by the magnitude of opinions/resources/options out there, PM OldmanFCSA and spend some time in his shop. He is patient and takes the time to explain the whole process before he demonstrates it, and then gives great observations/feedback while you do the process yourself. He is EXTRAORDINARILY knowledgeable and was able to give me a ton of pointers. He even gave me a great deal on a used single stage press to get me started! All in all it was a great time and I feel absolutely confident in starting reloading on my own.

I truly enjoy teaching reloading to people who WANT to learn the proper methods of reloading, so it is done safely and in a manner that the student feels confident going home knowing he can set up his own reloading station knowing what to look for and how to adjust equipment as needed.

And I tell everyone to call back in case there's any questions.
Additional training is available afterwards for fine-tuning your loadings or refresher of info forgotten over time.

Again all training is free, I just ask for payment of components used, and a donation for use of equipment.
I ask that students bring their own guns, but I use mine to verify all loadings are safe to use, in case a mistake in component selection may have occurred, or a number was transposed in powder volume. Accidents can happen, although I go to great lengths to teach methods on how to double or triple check all loadings.

I also had the pleasure of spending the afternoon with Oldman out at his place today.

While I know a bit about reloading, I did appreciate the additional insights, and we touched on some more advanced topics while the other student was working on his ammo.

If you want to learn more about ammo, and how to get the most out of your guns - you'd have to be stupid to pass this opportunity up. I look forward to more schooling when it warms up a bit.
