Slide glide? Gun panacea or yet another gimmic?

Postby Snowgun on Wed Jul 06, 2011 1:03 pm

So I've been hearing about this stuff so I thought I would bite:

http://brianenos.com/store/slide-glide.html

It's supposed to smooth the cycle of your semi-auto while providing lubrication. Essentially It's supposed to have a dampener effect, like the fluid shocks on your bike (instead of just a spring). Sounds good in theory...

So I got some Heavy duty stuff and slathered my 1911 with it. At least it makes my gun smell manly, like a 4 barrel carbed V8 muscle car with a slight hint of mechanic shop. 8-)

I'll let you all know the deal when I shoot this weekend. I'm hoping it will make my .45 feel like a .22lr, but my luck it will lock my gun up during our IDPA shoot. Probably mid stage. :?

So, anybody ever use any of this stuff?

Makes me wonder if the ingredients aren't the same as found in KY? :?

I use the Lite. Basically #2 auto grease mixed with STP. Works great, very similar to Pro Shot Gold grease.

Is this just intended for competition/race guns? I'm wondering how it performs in colder temperatures.

I recently picked some up as well. I have not noticed any dampening effects, but I chalk that up to marketing.

Its thick and it stays exactly where you put it, there is no doubt. I cleaned my Witness hard, used slide glide, and shot about 300 rounds in a range session. The gun was without a doubt hot, and I had no grease bleed from my rails. I will continue to use it.

There are a couple different grades somewhat temperature dependent according to the manufacturers claims. I will post a report on its cold weather performance in December or January :D

I've used it since I started shooting about 8 years ago.

Seems to work ok, stays put better than oil.

I have occasionally gotten some splatter if I get a little too much on though.

I can sure tell it stays where you put it, most of the time after I grease my rails and run the slide the stuff runs out the back constantly. This stuff stayed put after an initial wiping...

I bought the heavy tub and a tube of the standard. Light is supposed to be for carry guns and compensators, standard is for normal stuff and 60 degree plus weather, and heavy is for max effect and 80 degree plus weather.

I wonder if I over did it on the heavy... :? What are you guys using?

I picked up the standard and light. I am using the standard now, and will move to the light as needed.

Are you "shooting from the hip" on this? (yuk yuk :) ) What made you pick the standard?

I wonder if I should put my gun in the freezer and then bring it to the range in cooler... to see what happens to this heavy... :?

Its the vanilla white craker in me :D Light, heavy, split the difference. I grabbed light too, but haven't used it, kinda waiting to see if/when standard gets too heavy.

I actually had the same thought on freezing my gun and coolering it too the range, but I figure I have ample opportunity in a couple months. :(

Anyone use this in any of their long guns? It says you can use it on shotties and rifles...i'm a little hesitant...

Found these for the AR:

not sure I'd use it on the BCG internals, I think i'll stick with my gun butter grease

I guess I could have included that I have been using it on my AR pistol as well. Functioning 100% since application.
