New gun design by a local guy.

Howdy, I'm wondering if you guys had heard about this guy from St Paul who came up with a new gun design. It's in development now and looks interesting. Just to quell any potential issues, I am not affiliated with this group in any way. I thought it interesting that a "hometown" guy had come up with an innovation.

Yes, I have come up with a new carry gun (after 5 years of development). I can't tell you too much about it because the patent won't be filed until Jan 20th, but I can tell you this:

Caliber: 9mm
Capacity: 7+1
Action: Rotating-barrel Locked breech
Length: 5.8"
Height: 4.2:
Width: .95"
Barrel Length: 4.2" (not a typo)
Weight: 19.5 oz

I did this because I was fed up with the lack of power of all the pocket guns out there. I wanted a gun with no compromises.

Some stats:
Kinetic energy with Cor-bon 100gr Pow'rBall: 539 fpe (Glock 26 hit 464 fpe - not bad, but a larger gun)

28% more energy than Kahr PM9 averging 47 types of 9mm

7% more energy than a Sig P226 averaging 47 types of 9mm

So far, I have made 1.9" groups at 15 yards, but I'm no marksman.

All other info will be presented at the Shot Show Starting Feb 2nd at 8:30 AM at booth 5191. If you are not attending, then there will most likely be some media fanfare with a link to my site (which will go live just before the show). I saw someone shooting it live at the range a few weekends ago and got his card. Basically recoil pushes the cartridge out of the back of the magazine on firing, instead of out the front on return. This allows the overall length of the barrel to be longer without making the gun longer. The idea had occurred to me before, so it is no surprise that someone else thought of it, and is trying to build it. If he makes a go of it... more power to him.

Mr. Boberg was at the Bald Eagle club in Hugo on Saturday and he was kind enough to let me shoot a few rounds through his prototype. It's very cool. I did manage to break it; I think he said some spring broke. Up until then, though, it shot just fine. I'm not any kind of authority on trigger feel, but I thought it was an excellent DAO trigger, especially when you consider that it's working through a pretty long link -- none of the slop you might imagine, pretty light and super smooth.

First the target movers then your revolver (who can break a revolver) and now this prototype....

It sounds like quite a treat. I think it's interesting to be one of the first people to fire a new design. It will be interesting to track the weapon through the deveopment process and into production. Depending on the price point, I would consider owning one, initially for the purpose of a collector and potentially as a CCW if the reliability was there.

I get the sense that there really hasn't been that much innovation in the firearm market for a while, so it would be great to own something new.

One exception is the Firestorm. I was watching the Discovery Channels production - Future Weapons. The Firestorm concept was interesting. It uses stacked bullet and charge modules preloaded in barrels. The rounds are fired electronically, vertually eliminating any moving parts. Rates of fire are incredible. The barrels are dropped and new barrels installed - the old barrels are then reloaded.

I highly recommend Future Weapons- interesting stuff. Makes it hard to belive that anyone would want to mess with us with all the incredible weapons we have.

I'd buy a time-tested Rohrbaugh before spending that kind of money on a new, unproven, gun. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for innovation, and more power to one of our own that can break into the market, but that's quite a leap of faith for the consumer to make. I challenge the idea that there aren't alternatives for "high powered" pocket carry as well. There's plenty of Kahrs, Kel-Tecs, Bersas, S&W's etc., that will allow you to carry around a 9mm (or bigger) via your pocket. The added velocity created by the possibly slightly longer barrel achieved by this new design isn't going to be enough for me to bite.

Ahh! I see! Now I'm concerned about it being an inertial bullet puller!

Take a look at the "shorty" version though. Might burn the hair right off your knuckles!

Hey, I didn't break my revolver, I just learned that if you shoot with gloves on, the trigger sometimes won't reset. The other stuff, well yeah I broke that. I also got to shoot a P7 squeezer like yours, and that didn't break! Nice gun.

uhhh you know.....how did it feel......ummm right before you broke it...........


Sorry about the hack, I'm usually the one who falls out of the boat on fishing trips or steps in the 10" hole ice fishing, so I guess I get carried away when I hear of someone who has a little bad luck once in a while.

I am curious as Heck, maybe too curious, but I kind of geek out on new things like this.

Hey, really it broke itself, OK?

Actually I liked it a lot. If the 'fit & finish' of the production guns is as nice as the prototype, it'll be a very high-quality "feeling" gun (the steel parts anyway. I'm sure they'll sell it with nicer grips than the prototype has). Recoil felt very mellow -- but then I'd just gotten done shooting my .357s.
