It sucks, but, then again, so does a lot of life.

Anyhow, guns are not the answer when the mindset is in question......

This is true. Too much "care and affection" makes it difficult for one to see the man as the "problem" but just "in need of fixing."

I've advised many of these woment. Often, what they really want, is for the judge to force him to be nice", insstead of never seeing him again. (I have to spend quite a bit of time LISTENING to learn that, instead of just telling her about what the law suggests.)

The law provides for VICTIM"S ADVOCATES to advise (they often call it counseling) the woman, so lawyers don't do much, and the victim usually does not even need a lawyer. These wonderful folks are not counselors, and really don't have the kind of psycoholical expertise and experience to understand the victim. The Affidavits can be colorful; but, they all read about the same. The Affidavits simply plead a bunch of conclusions, with a few facts relating to the case at hand sort of jammed in.

Occasionally there is an OFP for some folks who have a new relationship, and often these women are NOT obsessed, he is. (Women shopuld be careful who they are nice to.) But usually both tend to be somewhat obsessed. If that's the case, she really wants him to be "nice".

Naturally, police can't really "protect" her, because when she sees him, the obession is simply reinforced. Neither party expected to be obsessed, they thought it was "love" in their own mind.

And the advocate groups that give advice to these women would save a lot more people if they would tell them to get training and a gun.

Agreed. But it's still up to the individual. I'm thinking here of the friend of ttousi who got beaten near lake Phalen. She took steps to control her own destiny when she, with the help of good friends got training and a gun. Also, don't forget that some people are against this sort of thing regardless of the circumstances. The only laws/policies required are those allowing people to do what they feel they need to do, not requiring anything.

I understand it is their choice and am fine with that. I'm justa saying that all these groups that advise these women and help them through the system should also tell the women that paper has its limitations, and a lot of them. If they really cared they should do anything and everything to help these people. That might require thinking outside of the box, and if there is a better answer than protecting yourself with all means possible I'm for it. Domestic violence has already created a lot of red tape, and can be used against people with only he said, she said.

our quarrel is not about the value of freedom per se, but stems from our opinion of our fellow men … a man’s admiration of absolute government is proportionate to the contempt he feels for those around him --Alexis de Tocqueville--
