If you keep track of kids and balloons, things like this dont arise, and you wont need search and rescue.

That cost tax payers a lot of money, time, and grounded flights.

The thing wasn't designed to carry a passanger (we know that now) so, the worst that Daddy could have predicted, assuming we are are on a witch hunt for negligence, would be the release of the balloon by one of his kids. In that case there would be no search and rescue. This has unfolded as a freak event. Therefore...no charge, case closed.

let me add...the only one up for spankings or anything punitive would be big brother for saying little brothers on the balloon.

This is now beginning to smell more and more like a hoax....if that's the case cite Daddy with a hefty fine and charge him Title 18 or whatever false claims falls under.

Balloon boy gets sick twice during TV interviews

By P. SOLOMON BANDA and IVAN MORENO, Associated Press Writers P. Solomon Banda And Ivan Moreno, Associated Press Writers – 9 mins ago

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The 6-year-old boy at the center of the runaway balloon saga got sick twice on national television when he and his father were asked during separate TV interviews what he meant about his comment that "we did this for a show."

Sheriff Jim Alderman says his investigators believe there was no hoax, but will seek a new interview with the family after the CNN broadcast to clarify the statement.

During an ABC interview, Falcon Heene (HEE'-nee) said Friday: "Mom, I feel like I'm going to vomit." He then left the room with his mother and could be heard gagging.

During a live interview on NBC shown simultaneously on Friday, Falcon threw up into a container when his father was answering the same question.

Falcon vanished around the time that a homemade helium balloon floated away from his home, setting off a national uproar as authorities scoured the plains of northern Colorado for the youngster.

I knew it. hoax. I think a bill for all emergency services, and a class action lawsuit from all of the travelers that were delayed at Denver Airport should set them straight.

I will be sending them a bill for the 2 hours of my life that they wasted.

I for one am glad the child is safe. If it was a hoax then shame on them. That said lets move on. If it was not a hoax then many things stated in this string were inappropriate. If one of my kids were missing. I would do anyting and call in any resource I could. If anyone got in my way...may god have mercy on them.

Besides, this isn't the first bull **** call that any fire department has ever responded to.

One of my neighbors works at the FD in richfield. They make anywhere from 10-15 runs a day. Those aren't always emergencies. I think a few BS 911 calls probably just need to be budgeted in if we as a society are going to provide such services. Fact of life.

Being an "American taxpayer" means that inevitably some of your money will likely not be spent the way you'd prefer. As with most things political, usually it doesn't always work out the way you'd like. Life will go on, although it might not be perfect. Too bad all our neighbors aren't as good of people as we'd hope.

6 yr old kid = tough to heap much blame on him at that age, no matter what
dumbass parents = well, possibly. But I can think of 5 sets of bad parents, in 30 seconds, any day of the week.

Moving on...

We did it for a show :puke: :puke:

Yeah, it was a hoax. The real question is this......... Was it the kid's idea, or the parents? If it was the kids, c'est la vie. Kids will be kids. If it was the parents... (and I think there is a real possibility of that) there should be some real consequences.

And by the way, we're all glad the kids safe. I'm not sure anyone posted to the contrary.
