Absolutely she did. Unfortunately they had to move because of threats - makes you think about what kind of lowlifes we have out there that would threaten someone who protected their own life and the lives of their family.

I'm reading the user comments on the link the guy posted to KFOR's news story. I can only imagine how different they'd be if it had happened in Minnesota and the article was on WCCO or KARE 11's website.

As long as I've been thinking about such things, I''ve assumed that part of the aftermath would be to get me, and my family invisible, and far away for a long while, as well as hopefully remain as anonymous as possible. I would expect some sort of retaliatory measures. And in this case some will view it through the prism of skin color, which has a greater potential for volatility.

It was interesting to note the police comments, while only observations, suggested the woman would likely not be charged, but the surviving burglar would probably be charged with murder, for being involved in a crime where a death occurred.

Good for her. It is sad to know that they might have to move and the emotional toll this will take on the whole family even more so the mother, but atleast the mother and children are alive.

Good for her. To bad it had to come to that. Not for the scumbags sake, but for the sake of her and her family.

Update- actually 3 suspects, 2 in the house and 1 'lookout' outside. 2 15 years old, 1 17.

link to an article:
http://www.koco.com/r/25477146/detail.html

My favorite snippets:
"Police said Johnson and Kemp are charged with first-degree murder and burglary. The murder charge is being filed because a death resulted during the commission of a felony. All three suspects have had multiple contacts with law enforcement in the past."

"Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes said the woman will not be charged with any crime."

“Our victim had no choice. She was obviously in fear of her life and certainly the safety and well being of her two small children. The use of deadly force in my opinion was warranted and necessary to eliminate the immediate threat to this young mother and her kids,” he said. “It is very disheartening that adolescents make decisions to commit crimes, especially this scenario where our defendants are habitual offenders and their actions lead to a death.”
