Definitely. But, when compared to others in his peer group of coaches, he still left quite a bit to be desired. He's competing with guys like Mike McCarthy, not Heffay and nyffman, too bad for him. :P

If I was Ziggy I would call Jon Gruden. I think Chucky likes California.

Actually, the year before Childress took over, the team finished 9-7, and just barely missed the playoffs. He took essentially the same team, and coached them to a 6-10 record. If he had been even a half-assed coach, he should have had them in the playoffs that first year.

I like the cut of his jib! He looks like he could coach, and as we all know, appearances are important.

I think we said the same thing. He can't coach, but he can put together a group of players that can win despite him.

It doesn't matter if he's a good, mediocre or lousy coach. The fans had turned on him and that's where the $$ is. Besides, you can't fire one-third of the team for not playing 110% (sorry for the lame sports cliche). It's easier and cheaper to fire the coach.

The problem was more one of not enough separation from the owners to the coach and team.

There has been no GM for a long time. Chilly (who I think will get a superbowl ring as a coach somewhere) was always dancing around the Wilfs, they would show up at practice, they would show up in the locker room, etc, and it was too easy for the players to think "I don't have to listen to Chilli, I can go whine to the boss and get my way" and the Wilfs are infatuated with the players.

Favre has turned into a really odd duck. No one talks to him at practice, he comes off the field and just stands there.

The defense has two guys more interested in their legal issues than in practicing, and their conditioning has taken a real hit. The outside guys are not as fast as they once were, and their lives have both changed, getting married and all that brings. EJ has come back so well, thats a huge surprise, but outside of the linebackers, the rest of the D has been a huge letdown.

Harvin's migraines and the meds he takes are taking a real toll on his life. He may play OK some weeks but I can tell you looking at him, he's aged about 8 years in 3, I have no idea what meds he's on, but he looks wore out.

No Coach ever blocked, or passed or ran. The ultimate weight rests on the players, and these players have decided its "too tough" to win.

That may be.

But jest yesterday, Payton manning had 3 interceptions ... Eli Manning had 3 interceptions ... and Vick had a fumble. Today, these are (arguably) 3 of the top quarterbacks in the league. Despite their ("poor") performance, the Queens'd be lucky to have any one of 'em.

And, given their history of developing young quarterback talent, maybe they should send out some feelers. But, back on topic, another negative for childress was his inability to productively challenge referee's calls. He loses too many and fails to challenge when he should.

That, and letting the clock run out in the first half with Farve AND Moss. WTF was that all about?

The Minnesota Highway Patrol is cracking down on speeders heading into Minneapolis. For the first offense, they give you 2 Vikings tickets. If you get stopped a second time, they make you use them.

BREAKING NEWS:Vikings football practice was delayed 2 hours after a player found an unknown white powdery substance on the field. Coach Childress immediately suspended practice and called the police. After analysis, FBI experts determined that the white substance unknown to players was the GOAL LINE. Practice resumed after the FBI agents said the team was unlikely to encounter the substance again!

Why can't Iowa have a professional football team?

Because then Minnesota would want one too!
