When questioned about a fur coat she was accused of stealing, a Brooklyn Park woman had a surprise for a Bloomington investigator.
After spending her New Year's Day weekend in a Bloomington Police Department jail cell, the 46-year-old suspect was interviewed Jan. 3. She was accused of taking a $6,500 fur coat from Alaskan Fur Company of Bloomington on New Year's Eve and arrested later that day on the opposite side of the city.
She initially said she didn't take the coat, but later claimed she had sold the coat prior to being arrested by police, according to the complaint filed in Hennepin County District Court Jan. 4.
When told by the investigator that she may be charged with felony theft while in custody - meaning a trip to downtown Minneapolis for booking - the woman produced the mid-length mink coat from underneath her dress.
The woman had been searched by police following her arrest, but the search failed to turn up the coat the woman - who is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 270 pounds - had tucked into her underwear.
