ST. PAUL, Minn.-- The husband of a woman recently murdered in St. Paul has submitted to police a sketch of the man he says prompted the fatal shot.
Nicholas Firkus and his attorney recently met with Saint Paul Police Department Homicide Unit investigators to share a composite drawing of the man he fought with during a reported burglary at his home April 25th that resulted in the shooting death of Heidi Firkus.
Attorney Joe Friedberg hired a private artist to render a composite sketch of the suspect, which is being released in hopes the public can help identify him.
Nicholas Firkus describes the intruder as a Black male, 40-60 years old, 6 foot to 6 foot 2 inches in height. He tells police the suspect weighed between 200 and 220 pounds, and was wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt.
It was April 25th at approximately 6:30 a.m. that Saint Paul police officers were called to a residence in the 1700 block of West Minnehaha Avenue, on the report of a burglary in progress. While squads were responding, a second call
was received reporting that shots had been fired inside the home.
When officers arrived they found the victims, 25 year-old Heidi Marie Firkus, and her 27 year-old husband Nicholas James
Firkus. Heidi Firkus was pronounced dead at the scene from a single gunshot wound to the back. Nicholas Firkus suffered a minor gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken to Regions Hospital where he was treated and released a short time later.
No suspects were found at or around the home.
During his single interview with investigators, Nicholas Firkus said he and his wife heard a possible intruder at the front door of the home. Mr. Firkus said he armed himself with a
shotgun and that he and his wife went downstairs planning to flee the house.
Mr. Firkus said he confronted the intruder and struggled with him near the front door of the home. Firkus claims that during the struggle the gun discharged, striking his wife in the back as she was running out of the room. He told investigators that the gun discharged again, hitting him in the leg.
Anyone with information as to the identity or whereabouts of the person in the composite sketch is asked to call the Saint Paul Police Department Homicide Unit at 651-266-5650.

Not much new to report, but does give a bit of insight into what his lawyer is doing for him.
