Not everything is a lie. Not everything is a conspiracy.

Sometimes a cigar IS just a cigar.

Something about Mr Steben seems to make people suspicious, and cynical of him.
It was this quote that caught my attention as much as any details of the theft:
"All of these burglaries will be investigated to ensure that these are legitimate burglaries ..." and not people reporting the crimes for ulterior motives, McCarty said...."
In the context of a news story about a specific burglary, this doesn't seem like the thing for a police officer to say.

Its an ill wind that blows nobody good.

They say $3,600 worth of firearms were stolen... A real MP-40 is around $20,000 on its own. A reproduction MP-38C is $3500, not adding on anything else. The MP-38C is a semi-auto pistol with the stock welded in place.

Scott Steben you're a @#$#ing dink...[/quote

Dude wat the F is wrong with you??? What nerve you have to say that about someone you just had some major misfortune. How do you know he didn't have them locked up? even if he didn't his house was still locked and plus how does that make it ok to be stolen from. What the F?? Oh and you should do some research before you bitch for no reason, so you don't make a fool of yourself. A new mp40 with folding stock goes for about $4000 and Auto Ord 1911 is about $600 mp40 mags about $200 bills each. It adds up to what he said. You gota check yourself man and get a life! I think you smell like a lot of bull@#$%....

Banned on his first post, only 20 minutes after joining the forum. Wow. I assume he must be related to the crime victim in some way and someone tipped him off to the posts herein. . . . . Notwithstanding, talk about setting a first impression. Again, wow.

It probably is not a good idea to have your first post on a forum consist of flaming another forum member who has 2,000 times as many posts as you do. Having said that, he does have a point with respect to the personal attack made against Mr. Steben. Clearly, tuber612 should have taken the high road and just pointed out that there is no evidence Mr. Steben did anything wrong let alone criminal. I don't know if tuber612 was a friend, relative or complete stranger, but let's try putting the shoe on the other foot. Suppose your friend was talked about as Mr. Steben has been in this thread. If it were me, I'd be pretty worked up about it, too.

Just my $.02 :D

I though users would normally get a warning before they were banned? I really don't want anyone banned because they were upset about something I said.

I agree. I wasn't trying to say Mr. Steben did anything wrong or criminal, only that he really gave what appears to be horribly inaccurate information to the media: "The missing weapons are an auto-ordnance, 1911, 45 pistol and a 9mm MP-40 semi-auto machine gun, said owner Scott Steben. The machine gun is a federally regulated weapon, and is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives."

The article also said his back door was open when he got home. Did he even bother to lock it or was it forced entry?

There also appears to be a 2011 incident where Scott Steben had misdemeanor charge of "Not complying with a police officer". While it's completely unrelated, it might add some insight into the comment made by the police about the burglary or Stebens character.

My $.02 for what it's worth.

A PM from a Mod explaining the wrong done with a stern warning not to repeat the offence under pain of the ban.

Is this you volunteering for the job?  I hear the pay sucks.

It's a double edged sword folks. The offending poster violated nearly every single one of our rules on the first post. Complaints were filed by veteran board members.

Had we taken other action, people would still be bitching about it but for different reasons. If you folks really believe that this action was over the top, please do what the people who complained about the post did and bring it up with the mods. We will happily entertain your suggestions.

Until then, it is what it is.

It is possible that the media changed his wording for there own agenda... because we all know how much the media love guns.... ;) and people owning them... ;) and if that Mp40 is a folder and has a short barrel isnt it regulated by the ATF? so hes not wrong, in his classification. Also i read that article and the Scott guy said "they pried open the door" so yes its forced entry! come on guys, the dude just got stolen from him $1000s of dollars worth of guns he held dear, just think of if that happened to you. Would you like to go on the web and see people you dont know bashing you for no reason? The guy prob only did the interview because he thought the exposure might help him get the stuff back idk. Im on his side
