I have to wonder how many of us would:

1. Still be alive
2. Still getting paid

If this were a civilian that pulled this crap.

I think we'd be sitting in a jail cell with some rather large charges against us.

purely speculatively and hypothetically...

you'd be laying in a morgue if you pulled this crap on a cop during a traffic stop. And really, I wouldn't blame the police officer.

We train to go on what somebody says in certain cases. "I am this close to caving in your **** head" sounds to me like somebody is on the verge of doing me harm, and if I was me, or I was a cop, I'd probably be taking appropriate steps to defend myself at that point...

I really like Bill Hemmers comment. ' Someone should be escorted out to his car, with a little box filled with his personal stuff from his desk or locker, and that would be the end of that,' Or something like that. He should really find a job as a high school counsler, somewhere like the 3rd. :o
In a stop, Your DL lets them know you have a permit and they can inquire about it if they want, and they know this as soon as they run it. This was a 17+ minute stop and the guy was a perfect gentleman. I would probably have egged the cop on, just to make it worse. Does he know he has a dash cam????
I have been told there is no need to announce it, as far as our local guys tell me.

Ohio has a "duty to inform" statute when it comes to carry permits.

This cop should lose his job. Not that it matters a whole lot, but the guy that got pulled over wasn't the brightest bulb in the pack either.

Terroristic threats for one, just off the top of my head. Conspiracy, maybe.

Currently suspended. As of Monday, on sick leave for "stress" as well. Hence my previous post about his suddenly seeking "treatment".

I'd be willing to bet on it...

Not only that, the city tried making some sort of offer to the guy about dropping charges, etc, and hoping like hell he doesn't go after the city. He may have just won the lottery.

More than once I have heard the comment about carry permit holders being "law-abiding", and I have often characterized them that way myself. I still believe that, and always will. The permitting process establishes that fact — to a point.

The officer in question here goes arguably "ballistic" when he finds out that the man has a firearm on his person. It is an inanimate object that is the source of his wrath. The permit holder has his permit in full view, and the officer even asks about it, why is he holding it up, etc. but still goes berserk. A permit holder with a firearm should not be a novel thing to this officer. His behavior, I believe, goes beyond just the realization that he **** up in not vetting the driver immediately.

This officer simply does not trust anyone. He fears an inanimate object because he does not trust that the permit holder will not use the weapon against him. The vast majority of police do not trust anyone, except fellow officers, and not all of them at that. That is the underlying problem, and one that will never go away. The nature of the business creates monsters. Some police hold that inner monster in check better than others, but they all have it.

It is that oft-demonstrated utter lack of trust in all "civilians" that breeds distrust on the other side. I certainly do not trust police. I did, but I never will.

Thirty years ago I called the Saint Paul Police to report a burglary in progress. They responded magnificently, caught the perpetrator, and went on their way. Today I would think twice if I were to call 911. A year ago I called the police regarding trespass on my property. It was a Sunday morning about 6:30 am and two unshaven men wearing filthy street clothes started to remove my cable connection that was attached to the side of the house. I confronted them, asked if they had ID (none), asked if they had a work order (none) — they had stated they worked for Comcast — and there was no marking on their 1992 rusty blue S-10 with a mismatched maroon box. They took off before the police arrived (I told them that I had phoned the police). When said police arrived they questioned me as to my behavior: Had I physically confronted them? Did I threaten them? I had done neither, but clearly their focus was on me, the victim, and not the two "Comcast" guys.

Police see a criminal in every person they encounter, be they perpetrator, victim, or witness. I also believe that current hiring practices discretely filter applicants so police departments end up with a pool of recruits that, if not for the police job, would be well suited to sitting in a tavern at 10:00 am each day drinking beer and getting into bar fights on a regular schedule, all the while neglecting the upkeep on that single-wide trailer they call "home". I sincerely believe that if your hat size exceeds your neck size you could never get a position as a policeman. Only those with thick necks and small craniums dominate police departments.

Whew! You should hear how I really feel about this subject sometime. :x

One of the reasons cops don't trust anyone is most of their interaction is with people who break the law or are acting suspicious or whatever. I go out of my way to give a cheerful wave or even chat with police whenever I can simply to let them meet someone not up to anything. I've often gotten quite surprised looks when I say hi and wish them a safe day. Mostly the Coon Rapids police because I don't know how other municipalities would treat it. ;)

Oh, I suppose I should say this is in no way defending the officer on the video...

They probably look that way because they are thinking: "What is this son-of-a-bitch going to do?"

Yup, probably. But then nothing happens and I walk or drive away. I try and do my part. ;)

At least once.

(I sincerely hope this guy knows how to turn off that silly drill instructor attitude when he goes home. He's gonna have a lonely life otherwise.)

I imagine that the other two people involved in that stop have no complaint on his attitude. It's just part of their life. They understand that language well.

BTW, I can get disciplined for just using foul language during calls. Sometimes, though, it just slips out.

What they need is Ohio is a Bumper Sticker that says:

HEY OFFICER, I HAVE A GUN AND A PERMIT FOR IT.
with a picture of a permit.

On the bumper or in the rear window.
