Breivik has told police that he modified dum-dum bullets to ensure they caused as much devastation as possible and claimed that he had drawn up more plans to bring terror to Oslo but had failed to carry them out.

He admitted that by cutting the tops off the bullets and injecting them with pure liquid nicotine ordered from China, he guaranteed that the lethal weapon would inflict maximum pain on his victims.

Dr Colin Poole, from Ringriket Hospital in Honefoss, north-west of Oslo, said: “Those on the dead brought in from the island are the worst I’ve ever seen. “They are very difficult to x-ray because the bullets just shatter everything into tiny pieces.”

The doctor's description wouldn't be inconsistent with frangible ammuntion.

It's too bad he didn't **** up the injection of the nicotine (if this is even true) and rub some on his hands. He would have been a goner in about one minute. Loading those rounds with nicotine oil would have hosed him as well.

Unfortunately, since Nicotine burns at about 95F, it is likely that these doped bullets had no "poison" effect, unless it was well encapsulated until round deformation. The lethal dose is about 40-80 mg, depending on weight (50 to 100 kg), which is about 0.04 to 0.08 of a milliliter (or CC).

The effect of nicotine would be unpleasant, as you would be paralyzed and have respiratory distress, yet still experience pain. However, you would most likely go quicker with the nicotine if you were not shot in a vital area, so it might actually have a beneficial effect....unless you were just grazed....

Breivik's lawyer said Tuesday his client had expected police to detain him sooner.

Since he was firing about one shot per minute,and at close range, an automatic mode would be useless.
