Actually, I believe the lyrics were by Steve Earle.

Correct, the Highwaymen (Cash-Nelson-Kristofferson-Jennings) covered Steve Earle's "The Devil's Right Hand" as the first track on their 1994 album "The Road Goes On Forever." Kris Kristofferson and Waylon Jennings sang that particular verse.

...and to think I knew all of that off the top of my head. :geek:
