Coon Rapids authorities say two men kicked in the door of an occupied house in Coon Rapids around 2:57 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5. The residence was on the east side of the city near Foley Boulevard.

Heard it on Cam & Company tonight. Very good outcome. I don't know if there's a trend or if the media is just picking up on these things more or what. But, Cam & Company used to have one story like this per night, which they called their "Hero of the Day". Lately he has been having two per night. It's sounding like the BG/victim relationship is changing. :D

Glad no one was hurt, Wonder if anyone else was home at the time seeing as she ran down the stairs instead of takeing a defensive position and calling 911.

Kinda begs the question do you carry at home?

Forget the sound app. Don't make any sound. Don't give away your position by making any sounds. Those who kick in other people's front doors are not thinking rationaly, so don't expect rational responses to things like shotgun sounds for deterrence.

Get the shotgun, and know how to use it.

So learning from this incident, it is critical to leave it unloaded so you can make the cool sound that is equivalent to the nuclear option in self defense.

It’s the last thing two burglary suspects expected to hear when they broke into a Coon Rapids home. From within the house came the unmistakable sound of a pump shotgun.

There’s perhaps no other sound that commands as much respect and fear.

With a single pump of her 12-gauge shotgun, the would-be burglars bolted out the door and through the backyard.
“Yes, a shotgun racking is something you don’t forget if you’ve ever heard one. So, it frightened these two suspects off right away, they took off running,” said Coon Rapids Police Captain John Hattstrom.

Theres something fishy about this story.....why would they even enter the house with two pretty good sized barking dogs. (unless they know for a fact the dogs are ***** cats) and to go through all the trouble and run from the sound of racking slide. Were there any other witnesses at all ? And where were thier guns ???

I was thinking that it was just kids looking to loot a place with no people inside and as soon as they found that a person was there, they left. Not uncommon that thieves just want stuff the easy way and the gal could have just said, "hello?" and they would have left but the sound of the shotgun is sooo much cooler.

But now that you mention it, lazy thieves who are looking for the easy way don't pick houses with big barking dogs......

Hmmm they must have been familiar with 12ga pumps as hearing the slide racking caused them to run out the door.
Watching the video it appears dureing the demonstration of racking the slide she chambers another round hope she knows its loaded or they might be back for another video. :o

As I purchase new guns, I outfit them for specific rooms in the house. Good luck finding them if you break in. Most likely you'll find the bait unloaded 12 gauges first. While I am grabbing a loaded something. But I want every room in my house, to have a firearm, just in case I have to move rooms.
The daughters room is the trickiest.
