Officer Shot in Lake City, Local Schools in Lockdown

Postby Hammer99... on Mon Dec 19, 2011 11:17 am

This doesn't look good. Wish I could find more info.

A male officer was shot around 8:45 this morning at Seventh Street and West Lyon Avenue in Lake City.

Rochester news reports the officer was responding to a domestic call and was shot in the head with a LCP by a man at the residence.

The officer is in critical condition at St Marys in Rochester.

My curiousity is if(at the time of the article) they believed the suspect was still in the house how'd they get the officer out without securing the scene first?

This is bad news, I hope things work out.

About 1250 kids and 165 staff are being held in school until local law enforcement says it is OK to let the kids out.
Lockdown mode. The doors are locked, and nobody gets in or out of the school.

Apparently parents in Lake City are unable to provide adequate protection for their children.

Domestic calls I believe have the highest incident of injury and death for the LE.

They should just change domestic call SOP to start directly with gas and flashbangs, followed by immediate volleys of shotgun beanbags.

 Why hold back? Wouldn't a firebomb work just as well?

Where did you get the information on the model of the gun? (I didn't see it mentioned in the news report)

While I understand the need to cordon off an area, if I was a parent I would be extremely upset if I wasn't allowed to see or remove my child from a dangerous area. It seems completely unnecessary to lock-down a school for this length of time when it could be safely evacuated.

Why are the police wearing camouflage uniforms that don't clearly identify who they are?

It was in the original news story that I had posted. It appears it is no longer mentioned in that story.

...and the "militarization" takes yet ANOTHER step...

Here's hoping the officer recovers from his wounds!
