I hope those "esteemed" Minnesota legislators who vote for a stadium know that it puts their job in jeopardy.

I'll NEVER vote for someone who votes to steal my money and give it to some buffoons for a new playground. I'd vote for the Socialist Workers Party candidate if it meant getting them out.

I could have predicted that from the start. Rule one of professional gambling is never invest your own money. Most of these folks have gotten rich by taking advantage of the all the credit that has been sloshing around in the banking system since Alan Greenspan took control of the Fed and kept interest rates artificially low (the Greenspan Put). The Vikings owners will use a line of credit financed by future income from tickets, TV revenues and other accounting tricks, and if things don't work out it will be the banks left holding the bag. Even worse, the team will use the loan as a write-off to avoid paying any taxes on their other income sources, so the profits of this and other ventures will be privatized, and any losses will be inflicted on the public as another bank bail-out or extended 0% borrowing at the Fed window.

It's like giving a criminal a firearm so he or she can rob you more easily.

Vikings Stadium Deal - Lies, More Lies, Damn Lies

Let them move, personally I think American football is boring and overrated. Let the fans fund it voluntarily. I already have a job, don't watch football, and don't feel like surrendering more of my wages under duress to the State in a wealth redistribution scheme this time aimed not at poor folks but at fat cats who know how to bully the public into paying for their business expenses.

After reading an article, last week I think it was, about the falling through of possible deals for a football team in La, let em go. Hopefully I puts the Vikings in a nut up or shut mode and to quote obama "they pay their fair share".

We've got 11-12 THOUSAND homeless CHILDREN in Minnesota. KIDS, you guys. Where is their "deal"?

Why are we even allowing these people to DISCUSS the idea of wasting our money on crap like this? What is wrong with us? In these tough economic times, the public outcry should be deafening.

Because the American populous at large is too complacent or self absorbed to do anything about it.

They'll click "like" on a Facenuts status or bitch on a forum but when it comes to taking care of business - - - oh look Idol is on TV!

DIng, Ding, Ding. Each and every person complaining about politics needs to take a look in the mirror. Instead of sitting online complaining, how many have attended their caucus? How many have attended their BPOU conventions?

It's easier to complain, than to actually do anything about it.

Attended caucus. Check.
Attended county convention. Check.

I really sort of dislike American Idol. :)

My thought is still let them build it at the arms plant sight and let the 2 Indian bands that want to open a casino/hotel there pay for the states portion. :D caucus yes the rest no gotta work to pay the bills.

A casino may be a less compulsory way of taking our money to fund the stadium, but it's still taking our money to fund the stadium.

My fiancé is a nurse case manager working north of the metro area, and she tells me she's never seen as much poverty and desperation as she has recently. Our neighbors are really hurting. I would rather my tax dollars go to a family or child down on their luck, than a stadium that'll do nothing for us other than offer a slightly better view of the Vikings getting their asses kicked ;-)

See, that's exactly it. I'm a working single dad, and I'm working on a college degree. I'm not going to take time out of my crazy schedule, just to go sit somewhere and have smoke blown up my ass and my intelligence insulted. These people may talk a good game with regards to serving their constituency, but the net result of their actions as a whole consistently strips us of our wealth and rights. Each side points their finger at the other, but they're BOTH responsible.

It brings to mind the time I found myself in court fighting a traffic ticket, and I watched the defense attorneys and the county prosecutors laughing and yukking it up together before court began. It's the same principle.

Well, it's dead! Even Dayton is saying "better luck next year."

Good riddance. The stadium proponents are having an epic weepfest on the Strib comment section, which is making my troll-o-meter peg out at "full whine"!

Democrats were not comfortable allowing gambling to fund a stadium, apparently it hurts the addicted and low income segments of the population.

They have no problem jacking up gas, liquor, or tobacco taxes though :?
